Is Allen Iverson waaaay overrated?

He shoots under 40%
His team shoots almost 43%
Does that mean he's making his team worse?

i don't think so.

the guy is 6 feet tall and barely over 150lbs. in terms on the NBA he's very small, but still scores at will.

AI's career numbers.

He's averaged over 30 points per game twice in his career. Not many people can say that. I don't think he's overrated just because he shoots a low FG percentage. Is Shaq overrated because he shoots a low FT%?

are you kidding me? if you guys think he's overrated you dont know much about basketball. the guy is amazing, he's lightning quick and plays through injuries like a man. he takes a ton of punishment because of his size, yet every night he goes out and plays his heart out

Hell I could score 30PPG if I had 40SPG in the NBA. He's above average, but if he were to be traded to a team that had players that could actually shoot the ball then you would see his PPG drop dramatically. There's no one else on the 76er's that can shoot, hence why he's got 40SPG.

Check out the other SG's in the league. Sure AI is shooting a low fg%, but shooting guards usually do.

while we're talking about shooting guards, would AI make your top 3?

my top three list would go:

1. Kobe (aside from this year, he's been the best with the greatest will to win, imo)
2. T-Mac (very, very close to Kobe)
3. AI (6-12 inches shorter and 50-75lbs lighter than everyone else, but can still dominate a game)

Paul Pierce is very close to the top three for his versatility, but i can't bump any of those guys down for a spot. Vince has just been injured too many times to have proven anything.

AI is hardly overated. I dont enjoy his "attitude" as I think its just definitive of the whole NBA style nowadays (gimme the Bird, Magic matchups ANYDAY over todays NBA), but he is a superstar on a team of mediocraty (sp?) thats for sure.

Gimme Ray Allen anyday over him though. Excellant player and actually a standup player too. Im not saying I'd draft Ray Ray #1, but I respect him a lot more than AI and the likes. Allen will never be as popular as AI though as he's not nearly as marketable (OMG NO VISABLE TATTOOS!!!) and we all know that marketing is #1 in the NBA. Ka-Ching.

If you have seen the first game of Ray coming back, you will agree he's the best SG in the league right now.

As a Milwaukeen and a Bucks "fan" (its hard to say that) trading Allen was the WORST trade ever in recent NBA history IMHO. We got Payton, who we KNEW wouldn't stay here for more than the 1/2 year we had him, and Desmond Mason, who at least is a very promising youngster.

But to trade Allen, who not only is one of the top 5 Gaurds (if not top 10 players PERIOD) IMHO, but he was somebody who actually LIKED living and playing in Milwaukee. He lived here "year round" and pulled in other atheletes and celebraties for charity events and such. It was a CRUSHING blow not only to the Bucks, but to my home city.

WORST TRADE EVER.

Kudos to Seattle and logn live Ray Ray.

no he's right, a shooting forward is a cross between small forward and shooting guard. I think Peja's about 6'10, no? He plays the 3 spot but plays like a shooting guard.

for a guard, .400 is a pretty low field goal percentage, especially with the number of shots he takes. I am not saying he is overrated, the guy is amazing 99% of the time. I think he and his team would benefit from him taking fewer shots and passing more. Play the point guard position but at the same time looking for his shot
