Will a Pabst "ultra quiet" fan be quieter than AMD's stock heatsink/fan?
Absolutely!! I have a stock AMD/Coolermaster HS/F for a Duron 900 and I have a Alpha PAL8045 with a PC Power & Cooling Silencer on a XP1800+. There is a world of difference. The Coolermaster is very annoying by comparision and the Alpha PAL setup is nearly silent. I still might grab a few Papst fans though to see if I can make it silent. I'll use a Silencer for the exhaust and PS fan and a Papst for the intake and CPU fan. I'll probably hook up a couple other Silencers to the Digital Doc 5 that I have and have them kick on if the temps get too high in the case. Will a Pabst "ultra quiet" fan be quieter than AMD's stock heatsink/fan?
That does look like a big hs. Do you have any idea if it will require that I skip a PCI slot or 2 with something like this? It seems like it's long and flat and doesn't stick out that high, but I can't tell from the photo's because it's not sitting on a video card.Sharkacorp and Siliconacoustics have the Zalman zm17-cu, passive vidcard heatsink. It's a monster, and should do the job- be sure it will fit your card, though......
