Back in the mid '80s you needed them, memory was in what they them call SIPPs and looking at it wrong killed them. They came in snti static sleeves and cost a fortune. Something like 800 bucks for 512k. Of course, a 386/25mhz pc cost 12,000 bucks too back then.

I have fried a p4 motherboard and I think that it was due to static shock. I also have never used the band but I do always remember to keep my psu plugged in but off while im working on it. That way when you touch the case you will be grounded

I've heard different opinions on plugging in your PSU. Some say to do it for grounding, others say to keep everything disconnected. I usually go with the latter.

I tend to walk around my place barefoot, so i don't get too worried about static.

As long as you're careful, you'll be fine.

in well over 10 years of building hundered's of PC's, i've never used one

hell, i stopped unplugging the AC cord some years ago, that's what's grounding it
