On 10/11 every relevant hardware review site and tube channel released their preemptively exhaustive reviews of the new Nvidia RTX 4090. I'm an old-timer here and have a soft spot for the pioneers still around like Anandtech and tomshardware; when I saw the aggregate list of sites with reviews I noticed Anandtech was missing. I thought this can't possibly be, my last impression of AT was that it was going on strong even after the founder's departure. Sure enough, there's no review, and a still flourishing forum with nobody else stating the obvious?

What am I missing? Is there a rift with NV and this site? Or is this just not the site it once was?

If you like benchmark bar graphs, Hardware Unboxed delivers them in spades. Often including temp, power, noise. It has the bells and whistles.... just not a "deep dive".
If a video bores you, youtube has chapters and you can skip directly to the parts you are interested in.

Anand was doing reviews when he was a teenager like some of you are just now, before some of you were born. He has grown up and moved on. With all the websites doing reviews today you have far more choices than Anandtech was back in the 90s. You should appreciate the ground breaking that he set an example for and if you need reviews just do a search on the internet, you will find many. I remember back when you couldnt even watch an online video review on the internet until the first one I remember Anand doing. Technology has grown so fast and Anandtech is no longer the final word on hardware/software reviews it once was. Get over it and just be thankful we still have the forums to visit daily. One day Anandtech will just be a fond memory.

That's what I'm saying.. tons of these odd ball goof off kids doing U- tube video's reviews on tons of hardware... Personally I cant stand to watch reviews.. still like to read them and see graphs.. but Im from the old era haha.. Most like to see these guys with the rainbow hair and tight jeans do these tik tok tech videos I guess... LOL. But seriously I remember when Anand was a kid doing this stuff. I was a bit older then him even then.. funny that he has grown up now. Time has flown. AnandTech, Sharkys, Hardwarereviews.. were some of my first place to learn from way back then. Some folk will never be thankful .. just find things to complain about.....

I was using Sharky's primarily because it was so great back then. I came to Anandtech when that site started to slow down. You are right. Forums are dying. Everything today is youtube and tiktok.

I'm in the same boat. Out of all of the old school sites (Tom's, [H], etc), I always enjoyed the way Anandtech did things.

But I fear those days are in the past, and at some point they're probably going to hire a fast talking young social influencer to do quick-hit YouTube videos instead.

And at that point.. I click CLOSE on my browser HAHA.. I have zero patience for most if not any of those under 35 yr olds ..... Count me out lol.

Oh man the hardware chat between the sites was very nice.. I would lurk on all the sites.. then at some point I joined them all.... I learned so much from them all. Toms too.

I was 43 when I signed up to Anandtech. I was impressed what that kid knew at his age and I grew old watching him grow up. I had lots of fun with this forums distributed computing community back in the day.

written media as a whole is dying out in favor of youtube. Production costs are higher but the roi is better. written material accompanying video material is even better because it allows for people with not enough attention span, good internet connection or people with disabilities such as the hearing impaired, partial or full, to keep up with day to day tech news and advancements. Youtube does pay better in the long term.

impressive is your knowledge of modern tech at your age. I think most people your age and up never got into computers because of how they were described as a fad or a toy back when they became available. I wasn't sure how to write this out without sounding rude. that isn't my intention. though I could say there are many in my generation who never bothered with computers for the same reason and can barely work their smart phones.

ominous indeed. it isn't the first time a tech writer has sent out an ominous punny tweet.

I still go to slashdot, tomshardware and anandtech once a day out of habit and I never thought I would start watching youtube hardware sites, but a couple weeks ago I started watching gamers nexus and now I am finally on board with why these sites are struggling.

Hmm I really think that depends on the people. When you really look at it. Even he was was considered young when you date back to the early years of computing... Say 50s - 60s. I know of people older than he is that existed on some of the forums across the net who were into tech and way back then and up into age .... I still think he is young considering the guys and gals who are now in their mid 70s and past 80s who pushed this tech long ago.

absolutely, many people on Anandtech are older than I, and much more experienced. I was a master automotive technician for Ford/Lincoln/Nissan. I was just a beginner in computers when I was first here in 1999. I learned a lot hanging out here for years, and build farms for distributed computing for some time. I finally moved on into Canon digital photography where the equipment held its value for a long time. Something I could never say for computers.

I've always wanted to ask this:

Is it possible to rig up a keyboard to a car's input circuits so we can control it just by using arrow keys? I know it would be tricky to control it and there is more likelihood of getting into an accident that way but has anyone ever attempted that?

I suppose if it were a Tesla... LOL Otherwise not likely. But some crazy kid on Anandtech might be up to the challenge.

it'll be like the real life version of road and track's need for speed that came out in 1994 was it? I haven't played that game since then but i remember getting very angry and hopping between the testarossa and the countache trying to win races against the bots.

Was Ryan actually on site for the event or just following along online? Im curious if he still gets invited and/or sampled knowing there will be no review.
