Passive entertainment for the lose. I don't watch TV either. Played football, ran track and wrestled though in HS. And wrestled in college freshman year before I got hurt. Never really liked watching but watched NCAA football in college. Watching anything sucks really. I mean would you watch a video of safari or want to go on safari? I know my choice.

That is the dumbest comparison I have ever seen.

I'm mildly interested in a couple of sports, but I think hardcore sports fans have proven time and time again to be the dumbest people on the planet.

I think the vast majority of people who dislike sports don't do so for neutral reasons (such as they're generally pointless), but because they've romanticized the dislike of something they're bad at.

Sports is competition and talent, and I can't imagine not watching and appreciating the elite athleticism and passion often on display in professional leagues. It's hardwired into us.
Dumbest reply yet.

I don't know too many people like me. Simply put, I don't really like any sports. It's not like I hate them, but I don't follow a single sport and I never go out of my way to watch any of them. I don't see the thrill...

Anyone else?

You're a Floridian. Aside from some college football fans (Miami, FSU, Florida), the entire state is nearly devoid of sports fans .. especially on the professional level. I'm always amazed at how cheap tickets for the Dolphins/Marlins/Panthers games are. It's so cheap to go to games down here.

No, you're not the only one. Only one of my close friends is in any way into sports. A couple others are neutral, while many are outright opposed or irritated. The one who is really into sports is in the worst shape and avoids all physical activity. Most of the rest are very active and several have fair to exceptional athletic talent of some form. There are no blanket generalizations that can be made about people regarding who likes them and who doesn't. Introvert/extrovert, male/female, smart/dumb, etc...it seems to be based on something else or perhaps nothing at all.

if the entire roster on a professional team and everyone involved to make it run is overpaid, then the owners would be losing money.

I will cut you off right there.

Did I say that I thought the OWNERS were being paid the correct and justifiable amount?

For those that hate sports, did you not play them as a kid or had a bad experience?

A few years ago I didnt really care for sports at all. Now ill watch NCAA Basketball sometimes, and NHL hockey as much as I can. Ive really enjoyed hockey and think its fun to watch, and as a bonus, I have a lot of good, mostly like-minded friends to watch it with. For me its partly entertainment, and partly socialization

I dont really care for anything else. I kinda like Euro pro soccer (EPL in particular) but that game needs some slight updating to make it more interesting. Given its worldwide popularity...I dont expect that to happen.

I love watching college football on saturdays. That most likely stems from me going to a Big FBS school.

Personally I love to row. Can't do it here in San Antonio so I bought an erg to keep my ass in shape. Rowing is the best.

I played sports. I learned baseball really is as boring as it looks, backyard football is fun, and floor hockey is tits. I don't like watching other people play games, it's just plain stupid. "Boy, that sure looks like fun. GO RAVENS!" :^S

Edit:
I wasn't particularly good at baseball, average at football, and average at floor hockey. Of the sports I mentioned earlier, I was above average at karate, average at WW canoe, and the other 2 aren't scored.

I scored 3 goals last night at hockey.

FWIW, there is at least one sports nut here that is not a fat POS.

I also have my bachelor's degree.

Just want to try to dispel the dumb jock stereotype that all the sports haters are clinging to here.

I consider myself a "sports hater" and I have not yet once stated or implied that I think fans are all dumb jocks.

what? you aren't making any sense.

the owner isn't paid by anybody higher up ... he makes his money from all of the money that fans spend on the sports teams.

so how is he overpaid if the general population is willing to give enough of their hard earned money to pay his salary?

so do you think that actors are overpaid too? when they make $20 million for a movie that grosses over $700 mlilion? and that $700 million is coming from the general population willing to spend their hard earned money on entertainment?

I am saying EVER SINGLE INDIVIDUAL INVOLVED IN THE SPORTS INDUSTRY IS OVERPAID.

Is that simple enough? The owners, the franchises that have to lease and charge through the nose for their products, the TV stations for advertising time and pay-programs (cable/FiOS/Satelite) the players, the managers, the agents for the players.

Everyone except the maintainence crew and the ones who break their backs to keep it running.

And yes, I do think that Actors are overpaid. For a thesbian to be able to make $20M for something they worked less than a year on, just for pretending to be someone else, is too much.

Societies twisted sense of value has made it that a Doctor, Engineer, or Teacher is paid less than a guy that hits other people or pretends he is someone else.

Sign of a fall of society is when we start paying more for entertainment than we do for actual production or service.

well the only people you can blame for their 'overpaid' salaries are all the general population who pay to be entertained.

sorry if we like to enjoy our lives by doing and watching things we actually like.

i'll just assume you have never once paid anything to see a movie or buy posters or memorabilia about a movie, and same thing for sports, because if you have done either of those you are contributing to the salaries of these overpaid people you despise.

Yeah. I'm not so sure about that. I love sports. I highly value athleticism and the ability for one to push the limits of the human body. I played HS football; and would have in college had I not had a diving accident that ruptured an eardrum and was not graph-fixable resulting in me getting seriously fucked up on minor blows to the head. Possibly could have become a professional diver had that not happened. My opinions on sports have never changed - even when I played were I good enough to go pro I would have chosen not to because it did not make sense to me as a long-term lifestyle choice when there were significantly better things I could be spending my years doing (such as prepping for the real world, contributing to society in whatever meager way I was capable of doing so - you know, general morals shit).

If your hypothesis had weight, it would mean that women would have almost zero interest in sports - and I've lived in major and minor cities alike and can say with a high degree of personal authority that the majority of women I know appreciate sports, and very few are physically capable of performing period, let alone being professional in them. Not arguing that you're wrong, mind you - just that I don't quite believe that's the case.

Kind of a narcissistic reply, isn't it? (Which I consider to be of dubious truth, but no matter.) Obviously there will be outliers. That doesn't disprove the theory that a solid majority of those who profess no interest in sports do so because of some personal negative link to it.

And, um, women do have almost zero interest in sports.

The only sport I watch are SC2 games

I've been watching a bit of MLG Starcraft II the last few weeks as well. With good announcers it's incredibly compelling stuff.

According to you, entertainers are overpaid. According to the world, they're not. Clearly the world places more value in entertainment than in doctors or teachers. I see nothing wrong with that.

There's definitely something wrong with that, but it's 'understood'.

I could not give a fuck less about sports either OP and it didn't even take two replies to produce the typical response to that you usually get when you disclose that fact.
If you do not enjoy watching womens sports like beach volley ball, gymnastics, and track&field, then I feel that response was reasonable
