I wouldn't put them in the same genre as Soundgarden, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, any other modern rock band, or the same genre as some of the good older stuff like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Zep, or anything like that, but I love Sevendust. One of my favorite groups that still exists in their top form (my other favorites are Metallica and Gn'R).

I gotta agree... good rock nowadays is far and few between. I saw someone mention Jet, and I agree with that too. When I first heard Cold Heart Bitch or whatever it's called, I thought for sure it was a classic rock song. It's awesome. We need more music like that. Oh yeah, and the Velvot Revolver song is awesome as well. Almost makes me optimistic for the future... Course, I can't stand Audioslave. Jesus, Chris Cornell's voice makes me want to shoot myself in the back of the face. People poke fun at Staind for whining, yet Cornell whines even worse!

No. Cornells vocal style may be whiny. That b!tch Arron Lewis of Staind (bad spelling is KOOL!!1) flat out fvcking WHINES. If I have to listen to him cry about one more girl who had the brains to dump his stupid ass I'm going to track him down and kill him.

Anyway, I too weep for the future of rock. When Maynard and Cornell leave life will be very bleak indeed.

Blindside
Seether

& while the Chili Peppers don't rock as hard as they use to, they have the best music out there.

There's still some good new bands, you just have to look away from MTV and the radio to find them.

I thought Sepultura and Soulfly were the same band?
Either way, metal will always be in the background, particularly that growling speed crap.

Yes, the Foo Fighters are my favorite band... but in keeping with stuff being said, need we be reminded that Dave Grohl was part of the grunge movement, albeit only as the drummer of Nirvana...

that being said, anything played on the radio can't be really considered badass rock, and so we are left to search on our own...

tho' not of that generation, my dad got me listening to Zep, Queen, Hendrix... all great bands from an era that, imo, can't be topped in terms of rock...

altho', as far as newer stuff... dreamtheater just rocks, Tool and APC are great, very talented...

for older stuff: what about The Doors??

Dream Theater is a good newer band. The Darkness, regardless of what you think of their singer, plays about as close to old-time rock as you can get.

Don't worry, though.....The Mighty Van Halen returns on June 11. to reclaim their throne as the greatest rock band since Zeppelin.

Eddie says he has enough material for 10 albums, so hopefully we'll get to hear most of it in the future.

Nobody seems to notice, but the fact is, most good-lasting, history-making rock music was of European origin. As long as Europe (Britain, mostly, really...) won't start making rock music again, there's little hope U.S. bands can really make a dent in the scene.

bah.. that NUmetal and NUrock is all crap... some ones nailed it onthe head when they called it "fluff"
my kids say "fluff" when they pass gas hehe..

i teach guitar for a living and i play just about anything... so i get tired of the kids wanting to learn the whites stripes and some of the others mentioned that takes me 30 seconds to figure out..
if the guitars aint got balls its not rock n roll...
all these new bands think they have to tune their guitars down as low as they go can so they can sound better.. heh.. metallica tried that on their last album and it flopped... just goes to show...

and i swear if another 3 chord band hits it big this summer im gonna have to flip out this time..

i miss the 70/s80s rock and metal.. man there were alot of great concerts.. every weekend almost..
the old greats will never die..
cant wait for some new van halen..

Bah... too much hype and $$ thrown into hip-hop/R&B as the cool thing to listen to. A lot of people think you need to rap to be hardcore. I talked to a lot of younger people (non-GenX) and they don't even know what the frig rock is! They HATE rock since it's so "played out" etcetc.

IMO, yes.

But then again I'm more of a metalhead.

I'll agree with others. Badass rock isn't dead, it just isn't whats played on the radio.

You also have to remember that... people change. Part of the reason you liked the music that you did was because of who you were at the time. Hearing those songs takes you back to that time, and no other music could possibly do that.. usually.

*Looks at rock playlist*
*Realizes that
Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith... they, along with many other classic bands, were pumping out the best rock music ever between 1968-1980.
arn't on it at all*
*shrugs*

my local classic rock station (NYC-area 104.3) plays them all the time. Well, not AC/DC, cause they blow, but everyone else on that list.

there's tons of good rock music out there (I'd recomend listing to your local rock radio station in the middle of the night -- say, between midnight and 5 am. that's when they tend to play new, non-top 40 rock songs), it's just different from the power rock that used to be the epitome of rock.

It isn't that I don't have any of that rock. It is just that if I listened to any of those bands on a constant basis I'd get extremely bored. Those bands listed are the kinds you can bust out at random times and go "ah a classic" but other than that... bleh.
