phil simms is the worst. i have no idea how that guy managed to win a superbowl because he does't seem to have the first clue about the game of football. followed by maybe jesse palmer, who has no idea what to do when the game doesn't go the way of the 1 talking point he's memorized in pre-game staff meetings.


the best commentary is always when they do one of those coaches in a room simulcast of a big game, like the national championship.

I really wish they would provide an audio channel that is just the ambient sound and the field mikes.

I'm not a big fan of Joe Buck for football, but he does baseball really well. I've never heard of Bill Walton, so I can't say how bad he is. Sean McDonnough's attempts at color commentary drive me nuts, but he calls the game well. I'm not a fan of Madden either. I like the folks who get deep into football, like Gruden.

Watching the UCLA-Oregon game right now. I mean, what the holy shit--is ESPN trolling the sports-watching people of the world, or what?

His never-vague UCLA bias aside, making this a terrible call for this game, and his long history in the NBA and those great battles between himself and Snapper, here are some choice comments from tonight:

"These guys won the genetic lottery! Who are you, scrawny little ref, to blow that whistle? Let them play!"

Referring to the dude that founded Nike: "This is the most important person in the history of all sports!"

"Are they ever going to blow the whistle when [favored UCLA player] is near the basket?!??!?"
"They will blow the whistle when there's a foul, Bill."

"Pritchard, who they basically blamed for the Georgetown loss, was benched the next game!"
"They didn't blame anyone for a loss, Bill--they rotated in a new starter."

Everything surrounding sports is banal. Shit's simplistic. A game can be summed up in less than a minute, but they're paid to make noise for hours. It's like writing a doctoral thesis on a dick and jane book. You're stretching making it a paragraph long. Everything after that is bullshit.

I thought I was the only person who thought this way about 'sports talk.' It baffles me how grown folks can be entertained by someone repeatedly explaining how to 'boil water.' I will watch a game once in a while but usually on mute while I'm listening to music.

Cris Collinsworth is the one I hate the most - if one of the big QB's was playing he would be virtually sucking their cock the whole game like they were to 2nd coming of the imaginary fairy in the sky.
