i usually open the door for anyone behind me...
i remember once when i was younger (maybe 10 or 11) some bitch was angry at me for holding the door open. i was completely baffled as my rents had been teaching me my whole life this was the right thing to do, and since it didnt seem to harm anyone and seems polite, i did so. she stopped and would not walk through the door. i remember being told by my dad if this ever happens to not say anything and walk on through in front...so i did. to this day, every time i think about it i cant help but think "what kind of dumb bitch comes to ALABAMA of all places on the earth and gets pissed off when she experience courtesy, especially something that is strong southern courtesy?" if i could...i would go back in time and talk to her about her interesting ways and try to figure out wtf her problem is...after calling her a bitch of course. lol
however, ever since then i've never had anything like this happen. occasionally there will be some males who just slow way, way down and make hand motions for me to go ahead, but never just sit there. i suppose the reason is they feel a bit insecure or something like that...maybe i'm wrong. anywho, i'de say at least 90% of all people i open a door for say thanks. good ole southern culture at its best
also, during my stay in japan me and a few other males did this upon seemingly instinct. almost everyone we opened doors for stopped and look for a second, said thanks, and walked through. we finally got asked why we hold doors open by our friends and we explain. after that they all say they desire southern boyfriends because they are much politer than Japaneses men, little do they know! lol
