Is CIV3 hard to learn?

I haven't played that type of game before (I've played a couple of RTS's but civ is different right?).
Do you have to read a phonebook sized manual to get into it?
Also I only have 256MB ram, is this enough?

its different from civ 1 and 2 but its still fun i personally dont like it as much as i did before but its better graphics and gameplay

Civ III is a little hard to learn if you're used to the pace of other RTSs. It's more like chess.
I'd definitely read the manual, there are a lot of things that aren't obvious to playing.
BUt it is totally worth it. It makes for an awesome LONG game experience.

256MB of RAM is more than enough

It's addicting, too, watch out... and yes, I agree tha manual reading is a necessary activity, although it is fun just to dive in and try to figure it out without any help too.

Its basically civ2 w/eye candy...

Though scrolling is kinda choppy if you have an nvidia card, and i cant update it because...

I just went ahead and started playing it, didn't bother to read the 256 page manual It does have a lot better graphics, but it does seem a little harder than civ II. Ah well, i like challenges

It CAN be hard to learn, but once you learn it... It get SO addictive. The game should come with a warning label.

No need for the manual....just dive in and start playin in tutorial mode. It have better graphics than Civ or CivII, but it not as good as the original because the icon are not as intuative as the original and the people moral icon are aren't as obvious for quick scan over the cities. The spies control is not as good as CivII, the piramid is not as powerful as the original, and the race to have is zulu.

You should probably read parts of the manual, but it's really not that hard.

Easiest way to learn is probably to watch someone else (who knows how to play) play You'll pick up the game real quick. Atleast that's how I learned how to play Civ 2.

Sit down with the tutorial and have fun. The manual just gets in the way.

this is how i learned Civ and carried my skill over to Civ3..it's all bascially similar.
