i was there today and saw a bunch of x800 boxes with pre-order stickers on them. I think they were all empty though.

LoL good luck on flahing that pro to and xt. LOL. First the pro has 12 pixel pipes and the xt has 16 pipes. How r u gonna make up for 4 pipes? plus they have two completly different memory modules. If u wanna cheat just buy a gt and oc it to ultra or even extreme speeds if u get a good core.

Don't mean to be an a$$ but obviously you dont know what flashing is. It unlocks the pipelines that are in the card itself. It's like a hard drive, the space has always been there but you cant use it cause its locked by the company who made them.

technically some video cards can be flashed to perform like a more expensive card. But most of the cards have the same amount of pipelines as the card there being flashed to. If one card has 14 pipelines and the other one has 16 then its a real likely chance its done on the hardware (meaning the PRO is probably missing the 4 extra pipelines and not just in software but actually on the hardware itself)

and what u said about a hard drive is a little confusing. i am slightly tired and ive had a few beers so maybe im reading everything wrong tonight but. are u trying to say harddrives have alot more space on them than your aloud to use. like are u trying to say when someone buys a 100GB hard drive they are actually getting a larger hard drive but the company is only letting u use 100GB?

1. The X800 Pro requires a hardmod to be turned into an XT, not just a flash.

2. So, lemme get this straight... You're saying that my 36 GB Raptors are actually 74 GB, but Western Digfital has disabled part of the HD so I can't use it? Ok, sure, whatever you say....

Yea, only makes sense doesnt it? Think about it... why have hard drives gotten bigger, cuz of new lazers and technology? No, its been the same for years, at least for the most part. All thats changed is platters i guess. Why are all hard drives the same size (physically)? (this isnt just my theory, i remember reading it in an article off of some magazine)

i believe this is true to a certain extent. there have been a few articles circulating where peeps have "unlocked" additional space on their hdds, thought, it's not clear whether it's all useable if at all.

well it is 2am.. but i still think that it only makes sense. Technology hasnt changed dramatically on hard drives, but they keep getting bigger.. why?

because hard drive manufactures find ways to put more information on 1 platter and at the same time make it so the hard drive can read the information. Technically you could be right to an extent..

but most likely there is no way a 100GB hard drive could be turned into a 200GB hard drive without some hardware changes (more platters etc)

But this is were your theory could be some what true..

Lets say theres a 200GB hard drive that uses 100GB platters.. if they wanted to make a 300GB hd they could probably add another platter... but if they wanted to make a 250GB hd it would probably have just as many platters as the 300GB but they only letting u use 250GB. so u technically have a 300GB hd but the manufacture only lets u use 250GB
