Coretemp is known to ship with so damaging malware you can just as well reinstall.

after working with my rescomp - who seems fairly competent in computer science - we have concluded that coretemp contains a virus - I am now wiping my drive and reinstalling the OS; he observed some behavior that is indicative of a virus.

Edit: On reflection, I asked the rescomp 'exactly what caused you to believe there is a virus' and he described the Mozilla Master password dialog box - so he is an idiot and I am too for listening to him without further questions. And, now back to why my wireless stopped working.

You need to create your own thread for your wireless problems in the network forum instead of trying to hijack this one. Your system clearly has issues uninstalling a piece of software should not be disconnecting your wifi.

The zip file is pretty tricky to find, but as of RC6 it was still there. I run it standalone without the installer and I don't think it's got any malware. It slows down logoff but is otherwise ok.

I can zip it up if anyone wants.

Does anyone know a link to the standalone version, I ran the installer and have adware galore now .

If you click on "more downloads" there is a link to the standalone version:

http://alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

P.S. The primary download entitled "Core Temp 1.0 RC 6.0" (ie, not the standalone version) does indeed appear to have adware bundled with it. There is an option for a custom install where the user can opt in for certain adwares, but I am not sure yet if not checking those boxes results in a true standalone installation. I would use the standalone version installation "under more downloads" instead.

Kaspersky 2015 doesn't find anything wrong with the standalone 1.0 RC6, but Win 10 does NOT like it. After opening and closing it a few times, my CPU usage will max out and the Win 10 GUI starts flaking out and then stops responding.

Good by, Coretemp. We were good friends.

I still use an older version of Coretemp since I have it installed now and the app itself seems clean. However, the installer is definitely packaged with a lot of malware trash, even if you uncheck everything. It took me some effort to remove all that garbage at one point. I wouldn't use it anymore with future upgrades.

That's strange. I'm running 1.0 rc6 with Windows 10 Pro and it's working perfectly for me.

The post you are replying to was made over 3 years ago. This thread was necroed.

Actually, I just opened it and got this same problem on 8.1. It must be incompatible with some Windows update, as it was working when I last used it several months ago. I'm going to remove it for good and try Realtemp now.

I like the idea of Realtemp, but to my knowledge it doesn't have two things I liked about Coretemp. First, Coretemp showed data on my G13/G15 screens. Second, Coretemp had a desktop gadget that I loved.

I can see my CPU socket temp through the window on the case (readout from Mobo's digital LCD), so it's hard to justify bothering anymore.

Yeah, Realtemp doesn't seem to have the G15 LCD support. That was a nice feature, although I use the program so rarely that I can live without it.

Thanks to a nice little utility that enables Gadgets to run on versions of Windows later than 7, I've had the CoreTemp gadget as part of my desktop for many years. The installer may well have adware today, but the program itself works fine in Win 10 and I rely on it daily.

CoreTemp 1.0rc6 isn't compatible with Win8.1 either. It hangs the OS GUI as well.

I had had great luck with pcmeter to run my gadgets in win 7,8 and 10. I have had issues even getting coretemp to load in windows 10 and it was a malware minefield when trying to install it.

whats the use of having it if it doesn't give good info, even if it is on your keyboard?

Coretemp works under Win10 on my end. It's pretty dated, and yeah don't get the installer (ugh), but it is one of the few apps that can track thermal margin on Kaveri. Though it does it backwards.

It's sad that this program has seen no updates in, what, four years now?

Even Google Chrome blocks going to the Core Temp site by saying it has harmful software. I'm sure the developer has a monetary gain by using the installer. In reality, the negativity far outweighs the tiny bit of profit. The installer is horrible on every imaginable level.

I have CoreTemp RC7 in a RAR. No installer.
