Is CoreTemp now Adware?

I went to download and install the new CoreTemp 1.0rc1, which has Zacate support finally, and it has a new installer. Looks like the author teamed up with some company.

Anyways, the EULA (who reads those things anyways) seems to say that the software will download and display ads on the computer. Whether that's integrated into CoreTemp, or is something that gets installed on the computer alongside it (most likely), I don't want it on my PC.

Has anyone else installed CoreTemp 1.0rc1 yet? What does it do to your PC?

I love the application and have been using it for years.

Unfortunately the download link here and the main one on the Core Temp website use "InstallIQ" to install the program. InstallIQ requires you change your start page and default search engine to Yahoo, installs cookies and adds registry keys.

If you want to bypass what I would consider adware / spyware, visit the Core Temp site, and click on Extras below the main download link. This will allow you do download the standalone installation packages.

Even though I selected "custom" install and then disabled the installer options for the yahoo toolbar and so on the installer installed them anyways

It gives me wierd temps for my 2600K that don't match up with the mobo's bios nor the temp software that came with my mobo, and it still uses the wrong TJmax for my Q6600 instead of the one published by Intel.

I think I'm done wasting my time with CoreTemp. Use to be a cool little app, now it just annoys me.

Yeah the installer is adware, the standalone still works great for me. I will admit that they are upfront about their intentions, small link below the download link on the Core Temp homepage, which is better than lots of programs.

Later with core temp.
While running LinX at 1.36v@4600 I get a ? then a 98c reading.
My average maxium load temp is 62c.
First linx run core #3 said 98c coretemp.
Second linx run core #0 hit 98c coretemp.
Third linx run said core 2 and 3=98c core 1=54c and core 3=62c coretemp.
Last check showed my T line water level is normal.
Real Temp says all 4 core temps max 62c.

Yeah, CoreTemp 1.0rc1 has a bug, sometimes it maxes out the temps on one core for a brief second, even when that temp isn't accurate.

I run RealTemp and it hasn't given me problems. Maybe switch to that?

I've always liked and used coretemp. Especially since it supports Amd cpu's. Realtemp doesn't support AMD the last time I checked. (Although I have a Core2 Quad). But I build alot of AMD computers and that makes it more useful than realtemp.

But Coretemp installing adware will keep me from using it and I will use HWMonitor more often now.

Yea, even after avoiding the yahoo bs, it installed some other crapware, leading me to some ad site.

Made me furious. Before reading this thread, I did not know they had a stand alone as well. They should have a Stand Alone download link, instead of Other downloads link.

I tied it last night and I hated it.
Im wondering is the watt meter accurate? I tied it on my amd 64 x2 and it didnt show the watt meter

Same here, since it does AMD. I've always grabbed the stand alone though, never once used the installer.

Uninstalling coretemp corrupted my wireless; I uninstalled coretemp and now my wireless is turned off - after each boot I have to run the windows repair utility to turn the wireless back on.

Please help with a solution.

Tip for installing core temp:

As soon as the installer comes up hit "exit" then hit "accept" when it tells you the installation is not complete. This will install core temp and avoid any of the stupid tickboxes.

Or use realtemp i guess... i like core temp because of its taskbar customization options, colors, frequency, load etc.

after working with my rescomp - who seems fairly competent in computer science - we have concluded that coretemp contains a virus - I am now wiping my drive and reinstalling the OS; he observed some behavior that is indicative of a virus.

Edit: On reflection, I asked the rescomp 'exactly what caused you to believe there is a virus' and he described the Mozilla Master password dialog box - so he is an idiot and I am too for listening to him without further questions. And, now back to why my wireless stopped working.

argh, i didnt read this soon enough, i used the installer to install but i didnt check the boxes of those suggested software, and i dont see any installiq thingy in my computer, uninstall it will remove installiq thing?

Did you download it from cnet or guru3d or something? they're usually bundled with garbage sideapps.
