Is Costco still awesome?

I used to love Costco, but due to moving to bumfuck central PA I have not been to one in five years. Now I moved back to an area that has a couple of Costco's and I am wondering if they are still kick ass and if it's worth $50 for me to get a membership.

From reading threads here on ATOT it looks like they scaled back their return policy, but I wasn't sure if it is still a great return policy but just not as great as it used to be, or if their policy now sucks.

Anyhow ATOT, play with my pole to let me know.

I love Costco. A lot of people will point out that they can get X at the grocery store for cheaper when it is onsale, or get Y on clearance through the internet for cheaper, but when time is valuable and you want only want to spend 45 minutes a week grabbing everything you need it can't be beat.

Careful, they'll charge you membership fees for the time you let your membership expire so it'll be like it was paid for continuously and never expired. Better to just get a new membership.

Or renew it and force them to change the start date.

Just get a new membership, I think they give you coupons for free chicken and other stuff with a new membership anyway.

Yeah, I didn't realize they did this and ended up getting charged for the six months I let my membership expire. Now that it's expired again, I haven't bothered to renew. Got a notice of a class action law suit on this a couple months back about it. Not sure if they changed their membership renewal policy since then, but why take the chance.

Seriously, why would they even force their customers to have to do something like this? Who in their right mind wants to pay for membership during the past time period they weren't using the membership when there's no benefit to doing so? I wonder how much money they made off of people who didn't catch this quirk about their membership renewal or didn't know they could change their membership start date.

Found a thread on the class action lawsuit: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/deal-discussion/921384/

Holy shit, that is indeed shiesty.

I sure as hell am not going to pay $250 - or whatever it since I have last paid a membership fee - just to renew it now.

So you get free stuff with a new membership? I got my original membership something like ten years ago and I hardly remember what I did this morning much less if I got some free chicken ten years ago.

Is their any benefit to having and older membership start date?

Costco is ran by retards, the sellin "Lil' Monkey" dolls story reeks of a company that doesn't have a fucking clue.

"It's so unfortunate because now it's being portrayed as a purposeful act to be disrespectful and that's not true. We really apologize. We don't think in that way. We don't operate in that kind of thinking. We have a really diverse family-operated company that's been around for 28 years. What would we have to gain for heaven's sake?"

Are they really this fucking stupid? The black baby doll has a beanie that says "Lil Monkey" on it and nobody thought it was at all racist and would piss people the fuck off? Sams Club has better hot dogs in the food court, better selection of what I like and doesn't have the apparently brain dead upper management Costco does.

I am convinced the main reason people shop at Costco is because they have to pay a fee to do so. It's a great example of reverse psychology.

IF you used it before it's more or less the same. The products in store have changed more than likely, and the prices might be a little higher, but it's more or less the same.

The only change ie return policy on TV, Computers, MP3 players, Camears and some other high end tech? no longer unlimited like everything else, but limited to 90days i think.

Bullshit. Some incompetent clerk might have done this by mistake Costco does not back charge you, worst case is you pay for a full year and not get the full year.

--edit read the followup, ya there was an issue where you could 'loose' a few months, op says he's been away for years.
