I have 2 pc-100 128 megs chips, and recently bought a pc-133 256meg chip from crutial. No wI get a whole bunch of screw ups, memory dunps, and nothing seems to work right. Is the 133 chipp backwards compatible? Also I'm using a BX6 v2 baord.

From my own experience, probably not. Best to try PC100 memory at the most on 66fsb boards.

Some people mix 100 and 133 without any problems, but It doesn't work for everyone. I had 1 stick each of 133 and 100 128MB RAM, either would run fine, but if I mixed them in my Tyan KT2390 I'd get a lockup within 5 minutes of booting.

Try the Crucial by itself, see if you still have problems.

I think what it may be is that it won't work on the bx6 v2. On the crucial website, I wasn't able to order the pc-133 256 for it. but I ordered it anyway, because I'm switching boards. The highest pc-133 on crucial's website was pc-133 128megs.

Thanks,

I would also guess that its not a matter of it being backwards compatible, rather that it doesnt like the existing pc-100 ram you have there.

Try running the system only with the pc-133 stick and see how you go, that should sort out whether its a mixing problem, or an incompatibility with your motherboard

the abit motherboard are famous for having problems with memory. try moving them around different slots or buy new memory thats all the same and check with abit thats it's compatible

problems could arise from the autodetect slot. probably only one does, the first. settings for the other RAM might not be good for the new one. for instance pc100@cas2 running with pc133cas3 might crash your system, adjust the caslatency.
