If you do a search on the S line monitors like

S2340L

for example there are so many complaints about half the screen dying and changing colors and flickering its so scary

its worse than chinese AOC monitors

I was getting the S2340L to buy locally and it looks so beautiful but I think just like my beautiful HP2509m monitor it will flicker and fail after a few years.

How can I buy a monitor with around a 8 year life span? maybe I should buy Acer since it has less failure complaints than DELL? Acer has a glossy display like the dell S2340L and its also a lot cheaper as well and hardly has any sort of complaints.

The Dell S line all have the same complaint after 1 year when the warranty expires it fails and half the screen goes blank. I wonder though if in 2015 this is fixed?

Dell .... who knows who actually manufactures their different lines of monitors. Since they don't make any of LCD panels, I doubt there's single OEM behind all Dell monitors.

I read one guy on Newegg said the Dell S series monitors are manufactured by AOC

Which would explain the massive failure rate. One guy on Newegg had 3 of those monitors for surround gaming as they call it, and every one of the 3 monitors he had died after 1 year.

And get this, these beautiful S series monitors that dell sell, are the only line with 1 year warranty, and lowe and behold there is a massive failure rate after 1 year.

This goes to show Dell knows something about this line of monitor that we don't. the regular cheaper DELL monitors all come with 3 year warranty and they all last well over 3 years hardly any complaints.

One thing you should understand about complaints, shortcoming, bugs and other defects in products. You will hear a lot more complaints than you will hear about people who are happily and silently using the product.

I used to work in support at a high-tech company. All day long we talked to customers who ran into problems with our products. Most complaints were handled by our distributors. But when the distributors couldn't fix it, they called us. That was mostly related to bugs in the software. Our bug-tracking database ran out of numbers after bug #100000. Bugs everywhere. Small bugs. Big bugs. Fatal bugs. Customer's networks went down. National backbones went down. It was terrible. Why would any customer buy our products ? They were total crap !

Well, that was from our perspective. From the support side. But for every customer that had a problem, there were hunderds of customers who used our products without any problem. Maybe more. Customers loved our products. And the company grew beyond believe. So my point: the fact that you hear about unhappy customers is nothing special. It's anecdotal. It doesn't mean a thing.

Same with complaints on the Internet. You might read a 100 customers complaining about a website. That looks huge. But it might be that there are 10k other customers who are happy. And those 100 unhappy customers found each other via google. And then flocked together.

I've heard a lot of complains about Asus's flagship monitor for gamers, the ROG Swift. Some people have had their monitor replaced 4-5 times. I heard the exact same thing about Acer's XB270HU. If you believe those people, Asus and Acer are terrible, their products and service are terrible. And it's a miracle why anyone buys from them. According to you, now we can add Dell to that list. I bet when you go look for LG, Samsung or BenQ users, you can find people just as unhappy with those monitors.

Anecdotal evidence.

Apart from a hdmi port that will not keep my cable in place my Dell monitor has been very good to me. This thing stays on almost all day every day and has for over 5 years and when she gives up the ghost I will always have fond memories of her.

I am using a Dell 1905FP that came out in late 2004. It's been my main squeeze since then -- in daily use for more than 10 years. Even though it's only 1280x1024, I see no reason to replace it. So far, it's been reliable.

I like my Dell monitor but it's a different beast than a S I imagine.

Only Dell thing I have.

For as long as I can remember Dell have made really good high end monitors but they don't make their own panels, so it's traditionally been a bit of a "panel lottery" as to what revision you'll get in any particular monitor. I don't know if that still applies today though.

You realize that Dell sells tens of millions of displays, right? A very low statistical failure rate will show up as a large number.

I am happy with a 3 year old dell 1920x1200
I read Dell's S2340L is a 23" IPS panel that has been manufactured to compete with its rival brands. Some cost saving was done in the process,

I would never believe any comments printed in the Newegg ..........

I have two Dell Ultrasharps (a 27in and 30in), which have worked flawlessly in the 6 years I have owned them.
