Is DVD+R a more stable/reliable format then DVD-R?

I have been using DVD-Rs for backing up my daughters movies and have had problems with several movies. They play fine for a while then start getting blocky and eventually lock up. I can eject the disk and it will play just fine through the area that was causing problems before, but will start messing up withing 10-20 minutes. I have tried several brands of media with the same results. Most movies work fine but enough of them mess up to where it is anoying. They all work when playing from my burner, but mess up when playing in a set top player of a DVD ROM drive. I'm just wondering if DVD+R disks are more reliable then the -Rs. I have a Pioneer DVD burner. I think it is a DVD-105.

Hmm...I was under the impression that DVD-R is more compatible and reliable, but maybe things have changed. I use an optorite and have only burnt DVD+Rs, which work perfectly fine.

How many DVD players have you tried? I'm thinking your DVD player is the problem if you're able to play fine from your computer. What process do you use to rip and burn?

What type of media and what apps are you using. They're exactly the same as far as stability and reliability. Some tests have shown that -R is more compatible in DVD players.
I have backed up my entire collection and they all play perfectly. No coasters at all. I have a pioneer dvd-r drive and I only use Verbatim, TDK, Pioneer and Panasonic media. The extra money is well worth it.

Yep, the finger points more towards the Media and possibly burning method then the DVD Format

the reliability of the DVD re\writable formats is unknown. the compatibility varies with machines and discs. dvd-r was the first format out in terms of any dvd writing format or rewriting. more players may be able to support it than anything else. dvd-r is what developers use to master their wares.

the only way to come close to getting support is if the product explicitly states that it supports a certain format. or check some database for details on media support.
DVD+R was designed to be more compatible, but it's not 100%.

I had the same problems with a couple of cheap discs. Re-recorded the same movies with better media and no more problems
