Is e-rice.net down for you?

I have a website (mainly used for email), which is hosted by e-rice.net. Today, I have not been able to connect to it, or to e-rice.net.

It appears to be down for everyone. http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/e-rice.net

Has anyone received communications about the outage or know of a way to contact e-rice.net?

Apparently Alan, the owner, hasn't been responding to support requests for some time. General consensus seems to be that E-Rice isn't coming back up this time.

I'm in the same boat as you, used E-Rice to host a site that was mainly used for personal email. I spent a while earlier doing some research into alternatives with bigger, more well-known companies so as to try to avoid the inconvenience of this happening again. I had my domain registered with Godaddy, and while they do offer a single e-mail address free with a domain with no hosting needed, it doesn't support IMAP, so I really wasn't interested.

I ended up transferring my domain to Gandi.net, which seems to be a well-liked company that offers 5 email addresses with IMAP support with domains. It cost me $12.50/year for a .com domain. My domain transfer hasn't completed yet so I can't say for certain that it is exactly what I'm hoping for, but as long as they deliver what they advertise everything should be good. I then plan to use my Dropbox to host a basic site - here's a link talking about that if you're interested.

I really hope it comes back. I've been with them for over 10 years and I just paid my bill for the year last month. More importantly I use my website for not only my main email but my business as well. Actually the email goes through GMail but it uses that domain so I haven't been getting any all day. I hope it comes back up at least so I can download the latest version of the site. I have a couple of Wordpress back up plugins but they're confusing. If he was going to shut it down I wish he would have sent out notice first.

Anandtech has a fairly high aggregate rate on Google. My guess is desperate customers are seeing this thread when searching and then joining to vent/share information.

Yeah, I'm actually an old AnAndTech user from the long past. But can't remember my password... and of course a forgotten password e-mail would go to one that was hosted via e-rice.net.

But I did find this via google search. Looks like this place, and another page on some weather related website are the main hubs for this discussion.

Don't we have any AnandTech'ers out around Manchester that can pay that address a lil visit?

Things are currently back up, but word is that Alan is still MIA and this uptime is temporary, as a favor to E-rice's customers from the company Alan leased the servers from, Softlayer. It would be wise for anyone who has anything they'd like to back up to do it ASAP.

I switched to Hawkhost. So far, they have been responsive. They are affordable and have good reviews.
