About the same thing as the old Parity thing.

Slows things down a bit in the memory dept, but should be more stable.

heh heard many people define ECC as Error Correction Code, Error Checking and correcting, and now Error Correction control.

It's like parity in which it can detect errors, but unlike parity, it can detect and correct single bit errors. Also in order to take advantage of ECC memory, your chipset must support it.

Hi,

although most of the people say, that ECC is only needed for servers, I think that it is a good thing for overclockers.
Most fails for OCed memory I have seen so far are single bit fails (maybe for tRP reasons), and even if the normal operation for ECC is aout 2-3% slower (and a real correction of a fail will be much slower) ECC will give you a more stable and faster system if you are at the edge of the memory!

ECC is slower and costs more. Like the ppl above me have said, it's only good for servers.
