I don't see it disappearing anytime soon, but it will reach a point of saturation. I still use and/or look at facebook at least once a day. 95% of the people that I come into contact with on a daily basis use it that frequently as well.

Its been ingrained in our society. It wont go away, but it will eventually reach a peak.

Gawd, I certainly hope so.

I've always considered the whole "social networking" thing to be completely retarded. People post stuff on there that they wouldn't normally want anyone to know about themselves. Employers use that information to either screen potential hires, or to get rid of people who say stupid things about their employers, bosses, co-workers, or stupid people who post pics of themselves doing illegal/unethical things...the kinds of things that employers don't want to have their names associated with.

Shut the doors. It's outlived its newness and should be buried.

I hope so, I'm tired of everything in the universe ending up as a link to facebook.

I use it to find old acquaintances.

Sooner than you think, it might be killing this year, but nothing lasts for ever. People will wise up and stop using it. Sure some people like you are on there to find people they actually use to know. But most have 5,000 "friends" of which they know maybe 3 or 4. For shits and giggles I looked up 4 people I use to hang out with back in the days, I found 3 of them on tagged.com

This. Most of my actual friends have a few hundred FB friends, with them friending new people daily. I have less than 20 people on my FB friends list.

FB keeps changing their layout and such for no reason. They keeps having these silly apps and game making it insecure and bloated. They will decline if they don't fix it.

Lol it's not going away soon. It'll be at least five years until we move to a different platform. Facebook has its hooks in real good.

I check mine frequently and post photos there. A lot of parties and such you can only know through Facebook. I find it quite useful and easy to connect with others for such things.

facebook is going to be around for a long fucking time. i'm sure its loosing popularity with those who are overly picky, have secuirty paranoia and those who are in an older generation, but for those who started using FB at a younger age, it is ingrained into every day life.it might be slow and crappy at times, but it is the best way of keeping in touch for a multitude of scenarios.

might as well get used to it.

If everyone "in the know" stopped using Facebook today, it would take a decade or more for them to collapse. AOL is proof of this.

Ok so you come here and asking if the most popular website on the plant is on a decline? What you think people were going to say. This is anantech a place to hate on what ever is popular.

Facebook is not going anywhere. Fritzo already posted the true stats "Facebook lost 6 million US users last month, but GAINED 11.8 MILLION WORLD WIDE"

I know you wish it would died but it won't.

Just to be clear, I don't hate Facebook, but I don't use it much anymore either. My question in the OP was if anyone else left recently also (or have reduced their time). The report on CNN shows that in the US and Canada there is a decline. If you read the OP again, I am actually questioning why they were making such a report about 7 million account decline, when they have almost 700 million. I was just curious how many others here cut back their FB usage like myself and most people I know.

To be honest, I'm probably seeing such a decline because most of my friends are in their 30's and have kids now, and our time is limited. We usually just meet up when our kids play together.

I certainly wasn't trying to say I wish it would die. I used to spend a lot of time on it, and I like that everyone I know past and present has an account on it. I was just making an observation that many are making the same remarks about FB that people did about Myspace in it's peak. All it takes is for the trend to switch and everyone will flock to another Social Network.

FB has about 2x the # of users as the whole population of the US and is still growing....

Not everyone will use FB as not everyone used the internet during its infancy. Social networking is a concept here to stay. Why? It's not because of whether YOU use it or not, it's about how the next generation of users (<20 yrs old) are using it and ingraining it into their lives....

Anyone remember cell phones? Many adults kept saying who needed one? Then everyone wants one....

facebook is great for letting me easily keep my mom updated with pics and such of the kids. beyond that it is useless.

Some people use it to show their friends who they screwed over the weekend and how drunk they got... but really I think most would grow out of that.

Is a loss of 7 Million active subscribers a lot for facebook?

Its interesting that this article is posted during the summer lull.

Just about "all" websites take a hit in traffic during the early summer months, with July 4 holiday being one of the slowest days of the entire year. Early summer, July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas,,,,, are all slow times for websites.

Why has facebook lost 7 million subscribers? Probably because their doing real world stuff - like going on vacation, fishing, camping,,,,,,.

Wait until school starts back, traffic will go back up.

I only use it for keeping in touch with my foreign friends. If not for them, I'd be off in a heartbeat.

You're not using it correctly then.

It's great for keeping event coordinated. It's great for bringing family closer as you get to interact with members you normally don't see.

It also is a great way to network. I've gotten a ton of clients from Facebook over the last two years just by friending local associates with my pro account.

A lot of people only know Facebook for guys taking cell phone pics of themselves in the bathroom mirror, a place where nasty rumors start about friends, and Farmville, but a lot of people are using it for much more than that, and it's being done successfully.

Pro Tip: If you like a store, subscribe to their fan page. Most of them post crazy deals and inside info on hot products that's not available anywhere else. I think I ate free at Arby's for two weeks because of a free Market Fresh Sandwich FB coupon

I have been debating whether or not to delete my account for quite some time and am leaning towards doing it or maybe at a minimum, deleting just about all the content off my site and just leaving the blank site there for distant friends to contact me through.

i don't see the harm in leaving it up there.
that's why mine is still active. and to stalk the hot hs/college chicks i went to school with.

disagree.
the thing that made it hard to drop AOL were email addresses that people have been using for years.

if enough people drop FB, it will fade as quickly as myspace.

People said the same thing about google.

Apple, Google and Facebook will take over the planet.
