I exclusively use Firefox, specifically because of the extensions. Grease Monkey is awesome, NoScript is awesome, Adblock is awesome.

Chrome can do GreaseMonkey and Adblock but not noscript, last time I checked. I simply refuse to browse any sites unprotected by NoScript, the web is so full of malware these days that I have to go by a whitelist approach instead of a blacklist approach.

I switched from FF a long time ago to Chrome. Don't get me wrong though, I end up using FF for a number of things that I need plugins for because the FF versions work so much better.

FF and IE both have horrendous memory leaks. If I open up a gmail, cnn, espn, or other tab and leave it open for a few days it'll be using 1gb+ per tab with no addons or extensions running.

Not sure if chrome is any better.

Firefox has had the 'takes half an hour to load after a reboot' glitch for like a decade. Fuck that shit.

Chrome isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot more secure than IE, more compatible than Opera or other alternatives, and gives me no major headaches.

Firefox with noscript is way more secure than Chrome.

The main advantage of Chrome is the speed across multiple platforms (for example on OSX Firefox doesn't run as well as Chrome, in my experience).

I don't know enough to argue with you one way or the other. I said 'more secure than IE.'

...a car from the 1960's with a broken window and an ignition switch that turns without a key is more secure than IE.

True - I was just stating that for the best security, Firefox w/ Adblock and Noscript is the way to go.

You can lock down IE and Chrome in terms of security, but it's not granular, so the all-or-nothing approach is somewhat irksome when trying to use it in real world scenarios.

Firefox is trash. Chrome is trash. IE and Safari are super trashy. There are other less common browsers, also trash. Opera is the only good browser. Everyone knows this.

I stopped using Firefox and began using Chrome when I read a report that said that higher IQ people use Chrome. I immediately did my part to change that statistic and haven't looked back since.

Opera is terrible.

I mostly just use Chrome these days.

Firefox is constantly freezing on me and Flash scripts are constantly crashing.

I tried Chrome, but it sucks worse. I constantly get the "getting response" when using Chrome like my connection is down.

Firefox is not as good as it used to be but I still prefer it over the other browsers. I like Chrome for being very lightweight but I'm really not a fan of the cloud stuff and having to tie it with a google account and them tracking and profiling everything I do.

I never had any bad experiences with Firefox... only switched to Chrome so I could take advantage of syncing between my desktop, phone, and tablet.

Just make the leap and stick that Google leash right up your ass.

Stick that Google leash up your asses and lick it clean for them! You know you like it!

I'm confused regarding your feelings towards google. could you please expound upon that and point me to a newsletter I could subscribe to?

Firefox was giving me issues a long time ago, so I went through a period of trying out all the browsers and settled on Chrome. Haven't had any issues since, and they've been introducing useful features (bookmark syncing, and now Chromecast) so I have no reason to leave it.

You'd think after a few years they'd fix the memory leak.

There's no memory leak. If you're losing ram, it's probably a misbehaving addon.

I tried the NightlyUX version of Firefox this morning, and it's atrocious. They removed many customizations, and it looks like a Chrome wannabe. If the functionality I need doesn't get replaced via addon, I may have to switch browsers; maybe Seamonkey.

In addition to a shitty ui, I think it somehow hosed my reddit login credentials. I get an invalid password when I try to login, and it worked right before I fired up Nightly. Not a huge deal, but it's a piss off. I have no idea how something like that would even happen. Maybe a coincidence, but it was an oddly timed coincidence if so :^/

Edit:
I think I found my reddit issue. Wrong password :bangs head: In a period of paranoia, I upgraded the passwords to various sites I use, and I guess I forgot. I have to wait an hour before I try again, but I'm guessing it'll work. That makes MUCH more sense than a browser hosing the credentials.

No issues with FF here. I'll leave it open for days and not have memory leak issues either.

I still say most people with memory leak issues are blaming the wrong thing. They blame the browser and don't mention they have eleventy billion 3rd party addons installed

I still don't care for Chrome that much. It's OK, and I use it for an alternate browser if I need one, but that's about it.
