Link to studies showing that? I definitely don't want any trouble with my liver.

I love a hot deal as much as the next guy, but can I be assured this kind doesn't give me the fish burps? TIA.

http://anabolicminds.com/forum...768-bulk-fish-oil.html

There is a thread on the forum with fish oil feedback. People seem to be replying saying that they have not experienced any "fish burps". Although I will agree with SVT Cobra, taking them with food makes a huge difference. I have not tried these yet, but am ordering them after the new year. My current stash is running low and I'm waiting for them to get some more bulk WMS in.

Costco sells 400 capsules for $8.99. They had a $2.00 off coupon a few months ago with no limit on quantity. I bought twenty.

I've been taking it consistently for the past few months. It's one of those things where I can't really cite any noticeable positive or negative side effects. Supposedly it's supposed to help brain functionality, and while I can attest that my memory is very good (in law school), I can not attribute that to the fish oil. I'm taking it mainly because of a recommendation by a good friend who is studying to be a clinical pharmacologist who takes it and says that it does help her. But who knows, she's very smart as it is.

I've never experienced these "fish burps" everyone talks about; I feel like I'm missing out.

Off the top of my head walnuts are mostly ALA and Fish are DHA, and afaik DHA > ALA.

Other than that it depends on the fish, the only issue is mercury content, in terms of just the omega-3 oils there isn't much difference between fish/supplements.

Mmm, never heard of those. I bought fish oil tabs (Costco, I think) but stopped taking them because of the burps. I would feel queasy, too. Plus, I stopped eating canned tuna and canned salmon for the most part a few years ago because I started feeling queasy afterwards. I mentioned this to some folks I know the other day and they commented that the oils are not easily digested and that I ought to look into lipase supplementation (aids oil digestion) or taking the fish oil with greens, preferably processed (e.g. blending greens into a drink concoction).

My digestion has improved over the last couple of years (I had a problem for around a year), but I've been reluctant to try the fish oil again because if the experiment fails, I'll feel queasy for an hour or two. Ugh. I've been intending to try, but every time I look at my bottle of fish oil I go "not right now!" Fact is I've had those caps for at least a couple of years and unrefrigerated (although my kitchen is usually pretty cool) so I suppose the oil has become rancid. What are the implications of that?

I'm no authority on the topic, but rancid, questionable as to freshness or being safe to ingest=throw it out.

Be careful of these cheap fish oil manufacturers. They sometimes contain many impurities and contain alot of mercury.

Where did you get yours that say "no burps?"

Would that include what I'm apt to find at Costco?

Edit: By my math, the Costco are cheaper than the ones from Nutraplanet.com. You'd have to take 3 Costco/day (400 mg ea.) at a yearly cost of ~$27. The ones at Nutraplanet are 180 mg, so you'd take ~5/day for about the same dosage, so per year, almost 2 orders ($25/order). I wonder how they compare. The Costco online info appears to be much more detailed. Plus, Costco has a money back guarantee. I think I'll check out the B&M when I go there in the next week or two. The Costco info says they filter out mercury.

Edit: Looking again at the Costco.com site I see that I was in error. It's not 400 mg, but 400 capsules. They are 1000 mg each, still.

Actually, it says:

1000 mg "Concentrated" Fish Oil w/300 mg Omega-3 Fatty Acids

So maybe it isn't that good a deal?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see where Costco's would be 400mg each. Actually they both contain the same amount of EPA and DHA at 180 mg and 120 mg respectively. -- Actually I just did the math. Even at a pill vs pill basis the Costco ones are cheaper.

Personally I'm sticking with Nutraplanet b/c I trust them and they have a very good standing in the supplement industry. Whereas I'm not sure about Kirkland. Honestly I think they are fine too though.

Target has them, Origin is the brand, it was $7 and change for 130 gel caps. I can't find any good info on origin though.I will buy the Kirkland from Cosco now though, good price and and found a list where they rate well for meeting/exceeding purity standards.

I took one of my old Costco bought fish oil caps a couple of days ago (first time in maybe a couple of years). They were labeled to expire in April of 2006. However, they were stored in a pretty cool place and I decided to try it. The cap was labeled as 1000 mg. I started to get the burps (I'd had a little something to eat), so I ate a PNJ sandwich, and was fine. Anyway, I'll be buying a fresh supply.

They're incredibly cheap and are great for you, so I don't see why you wouldn't take them.

I think what you guys are referring to are capsules that have an enteric coating - the coating prevents the capsule from breaking down as fast, and farther in the digestive process, so no fish burps.

That's for $8.99, and I presume B&M isn't too different. Decent deal? I suppose.

Ya, it's actually 180mg of EPA and 120mg of DHA totally 300mg of Actual Omega-3 fatty acids. It's the same as the 1000mg ones I posted on Nutraplanet. The Costco ones are still a good deal. People just have to be careful when buying a "1000mg capsule" to see what portion of the capsule is actually considered Omega-3.

So, what amount do you want to take, presumably daily?

It depends why you're taking it. The optimal dosage to help with mood disorders or schizophrenia symptoms is 1000mg/day of EPA according to the current research.

edit: fixed dosage typo, had typed wrong units.

My father brought this to my attention 3 years ago. He suffered from a heart attack and had triple bypass surgery 10 years ago.

He started taking 2400mgs of fish oil a day after reading about it. He visited his doctor within a month of starting this. His triglycerides had dropped and the doc pulled him off his blood pressure meds. After another 6 months, my dad's convinced that fish oil is very important in our diets. If you're under the age of 35, 1200mg is sufficient. If you're overweight, feel free to take more, but be sure to take it 2 times a day rather than doubling up. I once took 2 at once and had a burp-fest that tasted like carp......don't do it.

Got some fish oil caps at Costco yesterday. At first I was going to get the aforementioned 1000 mg caps, which are supposed to have about 300 mg of omega-3 fatty acids. They come in a 400 tab bottle for 8.99. But then I saw their enteric coated caps, which are 1200 mg, over 600 mg omega-3 fatty acids, 180 count for about $15 and change. The bottle says one-a-day. I got that instead. Just took my first almost an hour ago with breakfast ( + assorted vitamins, a baby aspirin and iron + glucosamine), so far no burps. I figure one a day.

Never heard of the usage to combat schizophrenia. Does it actually help lower bad cholesterol? That's actually my only issue, except for a few annoying joint problems. I'm a bit high on bad cholesterol. Not enough to take medication, but enough where I think about it when choosing what to eat and what not to eat.

For the last one year, I have had one of those Costco tabs with dinner. About two months ago, I switched to taking three tabs a day. 899 cents for 400 tabs = 2.25 cents per tab. I think that makes it a very good deal. What better deal is there?

By the way, I have had three and four tabs at a time (usually soon after dinner), but never had "fish burps." But, YMMV. These days, I try to spread them out over the day.
