I wish we were more like China. Being cheap is a nice skill to have.

Didn't they contribute only 1 million at the start? That's what I had read and tbh Fox's response was my first thought. Oh nice 1 million........

The fact that Giselle Bundchen and Tom Brady donated more initially than all of China, makes me agree.

So what can Haiti do with all the money now? I doubt they need money now but rather goods and materials for the survivors plus rescue workers which China already dispatched.

Um, what do you think the money will be used for?

Currently, one of the highest expenses is for fuel for transporting supplies to the country and dispersing those supplies around the country.

Fox is correct. They have trillions of dollars of positive net worth, while the USA is trillions in the red. After being mocked for a paltry 1M donation they are upping it to $4M.

Hmmm, who sucks more FoxNews or China? I'll have to say China. So far, Fox hasn't executed any dissidents. Then again, with Fox News' Saudi overlords, this might change.

I know the money can be used to buy the materials but it takes time for them to be manufactured and shipped. I mean countries do not have excess stockpiles other than what is needed for themselves or enough to compensate for a large disaster like this.

Well, the supplies are arriving as we speak, the problem is the limited ability to receive the shipments and the resources to disperse the aid.

I suggest you spend some more time reading up on the aid effort than worrying about people calling China cheap, which they are.

Beyond the money, the US is deploying troops to help out. How many other countries are going to make a sizeable dent in the manpower requirements to actually dig that country out? It's easy to throw money at the problem, although China seems to have a tough time of it, but actually doing the work is the real commitment.

Last I heard from my buddy in the USMC, they're mobilizing units for Haiti, mostly guys who aren't immediately deploying to the middle east. I'm not the most patriotic person in the world, but I am fucking proud to be an American when we send our absolute best in a situation like this. If Marines are being deployed, we're not fucking around and are committed to the situation, as we should.

That's not the case at all. The issue now is the fact that Haiti has no standing infrastructure. It's hard to even get in there due to lack of fuel, shipping infrastructure, and even air traffic control. The solution requires manpower, and the US is stepping up on that like no one else. I would suggest the US is stepping up in a way that no one else is capable of doing, but that would just make me an arrogant American, wouldn't it?

Trust me, with the lull in the American housing market, there are excess construction materials. I doubt we have to manufacture much of it. We just have to clear the way to actually get it into Haiti.

As someone who doesn't care for Fox much I have to say that China sucks 1000x more than Fox and they hit it right on the head this time.

Seriously, China is being a cheap bitch.

From what I understand China's contribution isn't in money, it's in supplies. However, guess who gets to chose how much they value the supplies at?

Personally, I'd be wary of any of the supplies that China is willing to give away for free.

Unfortunately, it's probably all the shit that the US and other countries have banned.

nope. they need the money to get to the service infrastructure (or rather, the roving infrastructure) so that they can provide the materials by purchasing them in bulk for much cheaper, more efficiently than single donations can do.

Pretty much every charity organization and private donors have mentioned that what Haiti needs is money--not goods and services right now. The other thing they need is hands--medical and search. money goes to all of the food/medicine/housing whatever and is easier, cheaper, more efficient than individuals donating materials.

You've obviously never been into a COSTCO. this is not a manufacturing issue AT ALL. it's import/export tax issues. Aid organizations have contracts in place, that they've had for years and years, that gets materials quickly at budget rates.

They need the money to purchase
