Half-life was a GOOD game, not a great game. It had no RPG elements in it at all. It was also completely linear. Deus Ex blows half-life away in gameplay.

I was in the same boat with most of you on Halo about the controller, but I'm through 8/10 of the game, and I'll simply say this: Halo is worth the X-Box. It takes a while before you notice a lot of the graphical detail and gameplay nuances if they aren't pointed out to you. I will say, and you might not think this isn't a powerful statement, but I consider that it is considering that I'm a pretty damn seasoned FPS player (w/ a fast computer, Radeon), and now I don't mind playing this with the controller at all. In fact, even though this is the first FPS I was ever willing to play on a console, I look forward to console exclusive FPS' in the future to play on my X-Box. This actually applies to just single player. For a online frag fest, I'd still side with PC's anyday of the week. Sure I can't have my super quick reflexes like in Q3, but this truly feels like "combat evolved." While I like Half Life, this is better without a doubt. But then again, this was made after it, and was able to learn from it like other games.

If you come into the mindset of "this is gonna suck," you're not gonna like it, simply because you won't want to. If you go into the mindset, "Well, lot of people like it, there must be something about it," then I GUARANTEE you'll be impressed. I'm not talking about playing for 1/2 hr at the store. You need to play it at home without any distractions, just like you would with a PC game for at least 2-3 hrs.

I consider Deus Ex the best PC fps ever, btw.

I was just as anal and boo! console FPS as you were, if not more, but I gave it a chance and I'm glad I did.

<< BULLSH!T! The best FPS of all time is Half Life HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! >>

Not really CS is the best fps of all time HL was average at best. Engrosing story line decent graphics (awesome awesome textures)

I'm an fps nut myself and I do enjoy Halo I managed to finish it co-op on the high difficulty setting took us quite a while I would image that single player would be pretty hard (would probably take a good 2-3 weeks of non stop playing). Only problem with Halo single player is you die at the start of the current mission (even if you killed 99.99% of the bad guys after you) It got a bit annoying but the game was well worth it.

I would easily say it is the best launch title for ANY console and easily a top 10 game of all time for any console. Put it this way if you are on the edge between choosing any of the 3 console systems XBox is the way to go. Halo is the game that makes it worth while. HALO is a must for any XBox owner and is the XBOX seller.

I cant wait for the PC version playing vs other people on a LAN is going to be EXCELLENT (I just hope they dont have the same quality of net code as Unreal/UT/HL used to have.

Though I'm still trying to figure out how to get the CDs I copied onto the XBox to play in Project Gotham racing. I thought CD was able to play the music. Ah well I'll figure it out eventually

FYI DOA3 is a must for when friends come over. PGR only gets fun once you single handedly unlock the cars and race tracks. Annoying I wish there was a straight play with any car option but its no biggy GT3 is exactly the same way. The only problem with PGR is the problem of depth perception objects suddenly appear closer. I got used to it but inexperienced players complained about it.

1. You can already play Halo on a Lan, and even over the net if you set up a VPN. But you're right, the PC version will probably be better for that...

2. Go to options---> music setup (or something like that) and copy the music that's on your hard drive to the "virtual CD" in PGR. Select the CD as the default source for music.

3. If you want to try all cars and tracks, enter Nosliw as the player name.

<< Bungie made some GREAT games too. to bad MS basically killed ONI. that one rocked too. >>

ONI? Ew... There was soo much hype on that game and when it came out, it was rather sucky. The graphics were only mediocre. And what's with those blocky and plain blocks of buildings???

Yeah Halo is definetley the best FPS since half-life.

I really enjoy the fact that two people can co-op story mode. Lots of fun.

Halo looked pretty damn sweet, but I'm bound and determined to wait a bit before I rush out and pickup an Xbox. I like waiting for a few months for minor bugs and revisions to be made to the product.

Don't listen to Radeon and Skoorb. For some reason everytime there is a post related to Xbox they feel the need to put in their negative comment. Halo is an amazing game and has the reviews to back it up. If it was on the PS2 they would be singing it's praises. And no I'm not partial to the Xbox, I have a PS2 and Gamecube as well. I like good games regardless of the system and Halo is one of them.

<< I thought Return to Castle Wolfenstein was EXCELLENT until you get to see those walking skeletons. What kind of bull is that, a game that is pretty realistic, in a german setting, and all of a sudden you see skeletons walking around?

I uninstalled it right away, my friend said he'll buy it from me...
>>

I didn't think that was so bad, but what was bad was they made the guns more realistic as they are in games like Ghost Recon and Counter strike where they recoil on you and cause inaccuracy, I was cool with that, what began to get lame was that the Airborne troops would still take 2 or 3 shots to th dome unless you cought them by suprise, and without that some guys just took a lot of ammo to take down, like 2 hits from the Mauser :|

It was like having simulation guns and having action game hit points. other then that the game was fun, the last guy fights like a B!tch hoe tho

Yeah, ITS WOLFENSTEIN. All the games have had zombies, it's the gran-daddy of Doom and all the other shooters.

haha, people criticizing Wolfenstein for having undead.... LOL

I rented an XBox from the video store along with 3 games, Halo, Tony Hawk 2xp or whatever it's called, and Project Gotham Racing. I like Halo the least of the 3. I'm pretty good at adapting to games, but I just couldn't get coordinated with the controls. I'd end up looking up and down, or left and right when i meant to do the opposite, it was a PITA. The graphics were great I must say, and out of the 3 games I rented I got the most enjoyment from Tony Hawk.

Speaking of that

Is it just me or is anything John Carmack (sp?) touches or is related Demonic and have Cults or what

Wolfenstien 1 had zombies Now the new one does, I know he didn't do it but it's off his game idea. Doom 1, 2, and we know what 3 will be about. Quake was basically Doom 3, Q2 was Doom 4. Q3 wasn't bad I guess but a few of the charctors were demon lookin.

as far as programming he's the bomb... tho he likes Brown too much but does he have a game that isn't.... DEVIL MAN!! DEVIL MAN!! ??

Halo really is THAT good my friend. Halo got a higher rating than Metal Gear Solid 2 at a publication, and 9.6-10's at all sites on the net. Don't let the pc fanboy pesimist's bring you down on it because it's controlled with a gamepad. The control was made for a controller from the ground up, not ported from a mouse/kb pc like Quake3 on Dreamcast. It took my about 35 minutes of straight playtime to get adjusted to Halo's control's, and now I'm one level away from beating it on normal difficulty. It is suposed to be headed to pc, but do NOT count on seeing it for at least 8 months to a year, MINIMUM. Since this game outsold Nintendo's top titles, Microsoft WILL make this a million seller on Xbox, and I can almost gaurantee you won't be seeing it on pc for quite some time. And to top it off, you'll need a very fast pc to run it acceptable on computer standards, since most pc guys run at high resolution. To the guy /\ above that said 'Tribes2' looks better.....Goddamn man, what are you smoking?! I want some when you're done!

Halo is a game run completely in a hardware lit and textured world. The entire world is lit in realtime, with realtime textured lighting, bump mapping, and particle effects. Walk up close to a wall in Halo and you'll notice that every visible grain, texture, and marking is visible and sharp as a knife. Now, turn you're flashlight on and shine it on the wall. The lighting will literally 'blind' you, it's that real. As you shine it and the light head's toward the center, the wall becomes brighter and shinier, just as a real light on a metal wall would. The water and snow effects (all run by the pixel and vertex shaders) are simply breathtaking and just the sight of them deserve appreciation. More special features of Halo include the HUGE sprawling environments, of which are so big they take 10 minutes just to get across, and every detail. The framerate is pretty damn good also, but it does drop slightly not very often. And when it does slightly drop, the reason is because there is literally 30-40+ characters comprised of high poly counts onscreen at once, with each respective effect happening.

The game is just freaking amazing. Any person that even 'considers' themself a gamer need's to play this game now!

Half Life was GOTY, but Halo has taken it's place imo.

right on NV,

I'm a PC fanboy, and keep my PC up to date (1.4tb,gf3,etc,etc), but my PC never could do this..

The controls are easy to get used to, and I could whoop somebody w/ them after about 45 minutes..

oh easily game of the year.

from someone who hates console shooters i can honestly say i love the controls of halo. it took me about 30-45 mins but after that I was blasting bad guys almost like on the PC. My accuracy rate isn't as good but its still pretty good.

Graphics are awesome. Gameplay is sick. What reviewers say about your soldiers fighting along side you, covering you, stealing kills from you its all true. On one level just for fun I trailed my men and they killed some bad guys but when they had trouble they were like "Sir get up here we need you." and then we fought them together. It was so sweet. Or when they will provide covering fire for you right before they go "Covering Fire!!" and then they start shooting away.

The vehicles are probably the best part of the game. For fun I drove while my friend was in the gunner seat. We were just screwing around but it was probably one of the best gaming moments in a long time/

So yes Brandon it is THAT good.

halo is ok. i haven't finished it yet. gets repetitive in spots. the tank is awesome but i can't steer the damn thing too well because
the whole farking landscape is ice and snow ! i like challanges but thats an annoyance. i'd love to get in the tunnel and beyond !

q2 was scary cool, a good 2 or 3 rungs better than halo. those little monsters in halo look and behavous ridiculous; they're like
elves with shark fins attached to their backs and they squawk like an ewok. i think the bigger - much bigger boys - are a tad too
difficult to kill in so far as they eat up so much of your firepower and you don't have much to begin with since they severely limit
the number of weapons you can lug around. i know . . . i'm bitchin

Halo is awesome, but it isn't the greatest game of all time. I was quite impressed by it, but it didn't make me sh!t my pants or anything...
