I have a Xbox and Gamecube and am looking at some LCD TV's. Are these cables/adapters worth buying? Will games look quite a bit better?

For the XBox it is most definitely worth it. I'm not so sure with the GameCube the games I played while fun didn't have a ton of texture detail so a S-Video cable is probably enough.

Nintendo doesnt sell the gamecube component cables no more. You have to look on ebay or hope some video game shop around your area still has a pair. Also, only certain gamecubes support the component cables. quote from nintendo about the component output "The Digital A/V Output port was removed from systems produced after May, 2004 (these systems will have a model number of DOL-101)."

my brother got the component cables for his gamecube. the sucky thing is that you have to use both cables (composite and component) at the same time because the component has the video and NO sound, while the composite has sound. yeah, it blows. but the games i play (zelda, mgs, f-zero gx, soul calibur 2, etc) all look really nice in 480p/progressive scan.

will be doing the same thing for my wii except nintendo smartened up and put RCA and component cables all in 1 cable this time! (also because the wii only has one output port on the back of it, unlike the original gamecubes)

Well, 480p is much better than 420i or whatever it is regular RCA A/V give you, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them, specially the GameCube ones since it's pretty much dead, and the Wii will play all GC and include the cables bundled in the package, as does the X-Box 360 (the premium one, at least).

Well if I'm guessing right it will probably be at least a year before I consider a Wii(when it has a bigger game selection and price cust). As for Xbox 360 it will probably be the same since I don't see $400 for any console. I'll def get the HD pack for my Xbox since I use it for XBMC and will probably never replace it unless 360 gets hacked as much as the Xbox did.

I might get the cables for gamecube aswell but only if I can get them for a realistic price.

Thx all for comments. Feel free to post more.

If you call Nintendo, they will sell you the HD cables over the phone. They cost $40 if I remember correctly, but depending on the display it's worth it. I have a 2405fpw and have tried both the traditional composite and component and can say that component provides a superb picture compared to composite.

As for the Xbox, the HD cables are almost a must have, more so than the GameCube. They really show off what the Xbox can do.
