Is hibernating bad for your computer? It boots up a LOT faster.

Kind of, because Windows installs last longer with regular reboots , and hubernation does not give you that.
If you have automatic updates on, you'll probably reboot often enough. If you're worried, do a real reboot every week or so.

Hibernating is meant for and is fully tested for laptops. Doing it with a desktop gives very sporatic results. If it works for you, then you'll be just fine. If you have problems, just forget about it. Turn on the computer then take a dump, turn on the TV, or get yourself a drink, etc. You'll never lose time that way.

I personally suggest at least one reboot a week. Simply since so many programs don't close properly and the computer can just get more and more clogged over time.

Why would windows installs last longer with regular reboots? That sounds ridiculous to me.

The only problem with hibernation I see is that it causes hard drive start-stops which will reduce it's life but on the other hand, leaving it on also reduces its life so it's a question of which reduces its life more and I can't answer that.

Maybe some application installations do not require an instant reboot because it can be activated right away in the memory before saving to the permanant storage and in very rare cases spaning multiple suspends(hibornations) the system may accidently crash which requires a reboot and reinstallations.

By the way, why aren't you using the STR which is much faster by bypassing the POST and no need to save & restore from the permanent storage for the memory contents?

It sounds far better to me to have a breaktime, if I need, listening to musics or watching videos or tvs on the monitor as soon as and wnenever I need to push the button, which saves power, patience and the needless efforts to remember & recover the last working states. I'd buy a new board for this reason only.
