Hibernating is meant for and is fully tested for laptops. Doing it with a desktop gives very sporatic results. If it works for you, then you'll be just fine. If you have problems, just forget about it. Turn on the computer then take a dump, turn on the TV, or get yourself a drink, etc. You'll never lose time that way.
I personally suggest at least one reboot a week. Simply since so many programs don't close properly and the computer can just get more and more clogged over time.
