I'm still with my g/f from high school, so I guess I'm a bit biased on the vote.

(I'm 23 now -- we'll have been together 9 years this April).

Congrats Rob. My high school sweetheart and I just got married this past summer. Together for four years before that. High School romance is fine, it's the drama that's pathetic.

It may seem trivial in retrospect from the perspective of age and (hopefully) wisdom, but at the time it's the most important thing in the world. Personally, I wouldn't so easily dismiss it, if only for the fact that we have to learn that kind of emotional interaction at some point in our lives..

Especially if they were your only "other" during HS, and you break up years after you've graduated

not dumb, just a learning experience finding out what you like in people and what you dont. i think its good to have some relationships in hs, at that point most kids didnt really have any BIG responsibilities so, dating someone was one of the most important things to them. I learned alot about myself and what i truly liked and disliked about others!

I had a couple girlfriends in high school, but breaking up never hurt me, even when I really liked them. I feel like I've been missing something somewhere.

I'm amazed 'yes' is winning. Romance is always a chance, whether in high school, college, or wherever. It can end bad or good and is always a learning experience. Yes you can look back and say "I was so naive back then", but if you didn't get that experience back then you would still be naive.

It's not stupid, it's an important part of life. While I do agree the young get all these thoughts of marriage and kids in their heads, but it's like falling out of a tree or wrecking on a bike....no matter how many times your parents tell you it's going to happen you don't believe it will until it does.

A growing trend now of the whole 'not letting your kids grow up' deal is prohibiting dating until college. I really don't agree with that. It's like home schooling until High School...you get kids that enter school and have no idea how to interact.

Even back in the 90's when this wasn't popular I remember my friends preying on girls that never had a date before and telling them sex was normal, and all these other lies that the girl ended up believing because she knew she was behind and just wanted to fit in. I didn't agree with my friends actions....not my call to police them, and I did tell them I didn't want to hear the conquests.

It's sad when you see parents being their children's worst enemies.

I hated dating in high school. Just too much gossip and rumors running about. Everybody had to know everything about your relationship, very bothersome.
