Is hunger bad when trying to lose fat if you don't exercise?

Hunger puts your body into survival mode, lowering the metabolism and burning muscle mass keeping the body fat as reserves.
So yes ,hunger is bad and losing fat without exercise is almost impossible, you have to get close to starving to death with not enough muscle left to feed the body before it will start to burn the fat.

TheElf,

Shhhhhhhh ...... you don't know what you are saying. There are studies on this that tell you how the body reacts to calorie deprivation. And your description is more akin to what I refer to as "bro science"

To the OP. I can only comment for myself. When in a calorie deficit, I find it much easier to avoid eating when I exercise. I don't know why but the hunger tends to be less apparent when I exercise.

exercising without eating is bad for your health. Eat little meals frequently to increase the rate of metabolism in your body. Then you can loose weight at optimal level.

first off, most people don't even know what actual "hunger" is. it could simply be dehydration.

second off, a little actual hunger is fine. if one is actually tracking their food and eating planned/controlled amount, you will be just fine.

the only actual issue I have with hunger would be it causing a person to over eat

You probably will lose some body fat when not eating for extended periods, but it becomes much slower, because metabolism is now slower. Better diet and regular excercise are both needed to be in good shape and health. Although it also depends on genetics etc...

depends on level of 'hunger' you just have to eat when 'hungry' and eat the right things. Don't mix your complex carbs with fats too much and you'll be fine. Also when you say 'not exercising' does this include not walking or doing anything physical at all? It's not hard to lose fat if you have will power.

this is bro science but if fat people have their stomach size reduced, it's because they feel less hunger this way.
So I guess that being used to overeat does make you more hungry.

Don't be that guy who skips meals or eats just a salad and then keeps taking snacks out of his pockets.

You might find it interesting to look up the scientific aspect of why the brain sends out signals that you are hungry - otherwise - it is more likely you will feel hungry if you are not doing anything. Simply put, activity causes the body to focus on other things than eating - and not just physical activity - this is also the case when you are highly absorbed into something mentally and just don't feel hungry because of it.

There's nothing wrong with feeling hungry. Most animals are meant to feel hungry most of the time. We just happen to live in a time and place of plenty, and so people eat when they're bored, or sad, or happy and get fat.

Ignore anyone who ever tells you anything about "starvation mode" or "survival mode." Take a look at the population of work\internment camps of the past and tell me why no one is fat. Or take a look at the man who lived off just his body fat, vitamins and water for months.

Hunger is mainly caused by the tail end of an insulin response which is of course caused by eating fast carbohydrates. If you eat nothing but non-calorie vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, spinach, etc) cooked in butter or bacon grease, you will get full off the fat, the fiber from the veggies, and the water you drink with it. You will feel full and stay full for a LONG time. You wont feel hungry, so you wont chain on more fast carbs. That's what makes people fat. They keep eating fast carbs, then they get hungry, so they eat more, then they get hungry, so they eat more, rinsing and repeating until they've taken in 3000+ calories of carbs per day. I would say I dont know why this stuff isnt taught in schools and hammered into people's heads, but of course I do know why. Sugar, starch, and obesity is a multitrillion dollar industry.

Physical Hunger - Comes on gradually and can be post-poned. Satisfied by any type of food.

Emotional Hunger - Comes on suddenly and feels urgent. Specific cravings, for low quality foods such as pizza, chips, candy.

I only eat from ~11am-7pm. Usually around 7-8am I am a little bit hungry. It tends to go away on it's own.

Studies have shown it's generally better to eat a few larger meals spaced out 4-5 hours apart, than the 'brosci' 7+ meals a day, ~2-3hrs apart.

If you do fasting like I do, you may be a little hungry at first in the fasted state, but you will never be hungry during the eating period, even on low cal diets.

Are you asking if hunger is "a bad thing" or if hunger without exercise is more severe?

I vastly prefer to get a lot of cardio exercise to create a deficit because I feel better, I can get faster results and get to eat more things at the same time.

Hunger itself isn't "bad" - it's kind of an inevitable result of eating less than your body wants to.

Subjectively, if I try to maintain the same deficit without exercise it's incredibly frustrating and drives me up the wall. Last fall I pushed the last ~5lbs to my goal at just 1lb/week without any outdoor exercise (because Canada) and nearly lost my mind.

I have learned that an evening not eating once a week is nothing bad. I even feel better because of it. It even improves appetite. Eating every day becomes boring to me. I eat because i am used to it. But i want to enjoy my food when i eat and fasting for an evening a week helps with that.

I mean, i have every day some fruit and coffee at breakfast and some bread with meat and vegetables and some fruit juice at noon. Drinking water the rest of the day. Eating at 12:00 and then not eating for 20 hours until breakfast the next day is not that bad as it seems. Gives the intestines some rest.

But the rest of the week i eat my healthy diner and enjoy it more.

Hunger is a scary thing to your body.

1. It slows down your metabolism so more fat is accumulated in cells. Whatever you eat, it does not digest the way it should be.

2. It causes so-called insulin spike. It's a condition when much insulin is thrown-in. If during a spike you try to eat something (and after starving you want to eat a lot), all the food is transformed into fats, not energy.

Therefore, a balanced diet is your only key to a successful weight loss. Not work outs, not weight loss pills, no starvation, but your food.

It's some kind of paradox, but to lose weight, you need to eat.

If we talk about diet pills that work, it's definitely PhenQ pill and Phen375 pill and maybe these weight loss pills

As evidenced by the all the morbidly obese jews that were rescued from the concentration camps after world war II, you fuckin' rube.

Animals are hungry most of the time by design. Most animals spend most of their energy looking for food. Being hungry isn't going to hurt you. There is no such thing as "starvation mode." As evidenced by this guy, among others.

Man, you didn't understand my point.

In fact, starvation may even be healing. But you need to know how to starve correctly to detox and reboot your organism.

However, I was talking about "starving" as a weight loss method.

The way most people treat it is the following:

They starve themselves the whole day, some even smoke to suppress their cravings, but when the night comes...

...they invade their fridges and hunt for any food they can find.

Consequences are: insulin spike, more fat production, weight gain, intoxication, total devastation. :ninja:

If you eat every time you feel hungry, I really doubt you are going to burn any of your fat unless you fill up on foods that are very low calorie or actually have a caloric deficit (ie celery). Contrary to what some will claim, skipping a meal will not cause your body to shut down and start cannibalizing muscle unless you are engaged in some serious strenuous activity (a condition called rhabdomyolysis). If it did, our ancestors would have never lived long enough to give birth to our other ancestors.

The trick is to avoid over-eating after you break your fast. So if you skip breakfast, just try to still eat reasonably for lunch and dinner. Anecdotally, I only eat breakfast on the weekends and I try to stick to an intermittent fasting schedule on weekdays. I have an 8 hour window to eat (noon-8pm) and then 16 hours where I don't. I get hunger pangs even now, but my body definitely does not enter any kind of starvation mode, and I exercise on almost every weekday.
