is it a good idea to paint my own case?

i was looking at newegg's website today and saw some pretty cool colored cases. i particularly like this one. then i saw the price and yelped "JEEBUZ!!!" so now i am thinking... why don't i paint my own case yellow? has anyone done this before? what kinda paint would i use? i figure i should use a POS case first as a guinea pig right?

Yep... you should... i painted that Chieftec rip off Cooler Master case metallic black because i hated that brown cooler master has on some of their cases... i'm almost done... just the few final coats... the hardest thing about this whole painting thing is waiting...

I painted my case, but only got to the second colour coat, and then started working so not had time to finish it.

I didn't do anywhere near enough prep work on it, so the final thing (as it is at the moment anyway) isn't too good. However i'm taking home a big server case from work today that they were getting rid of, and i will do some more on that, and do some major modding to it

Also maybe a chance to get my rig watercooled finally

Oh yeah, back on topic Most important thing is the prep work. If you want a good final colour, and a good finish, make sure you spend time on the prep work, getting it smooth and having a good layer of primer on it

Listen to Confused though...spend some good prep time sanding and priming. It will look SOOO good when you get done.

Here's a tip on painting CD-Roms:
The trick to getting the bezel off is to open the drive tray with a paperclip and take the front of the drive off first. After that the rest of the bezel comes off easy.

Also dont' forget to mask off the little clear LED cover before you start...INCLUDING THE BACK OF IT! (it's easiest to paint the edges of the bezel while it's face down...and I forgot to mask the back of the LED cover..d'oh)
