Beause, despite following advice of others, IE still allows spyware to be installed on my computer. Plus I like the tabs + built in popup/spyware stopper.

Its weird that I have no spyware on my computer using IE...and its also weird that SP2 seems to have a popup blocker installed. That, and tabbed browsing sucks big time.

Wow... "interesting" thread. I personally use FF. It works nicely for me, and I enjoy the extensions, themes, and tabbed browsing.

I use IE only for Windows Update these days... And that's only when i'm not in Linux. Which i use by the way, as a learning tool, not because I think I'm a 1337 script-kiddy. I also enjoy programming in linux, because I get the personal satisfaction of being a useful member of a community.

IE had it's heyday, but at the moment, it is no longer top dog. Perhaps if some of those security/functionality issues were resolved I would switch back. But until then it's Firefox for me.

It's just funny to me, I haven't even seen that ban form before. I'm usually in fs/ft or hotdeals.

And you've got a poor attitude, to boot.

MY attitude is poor? Im a flag waiving IE fan and MY attitude is poor?

You can wave that IE flag all you want but
calling Firefox users idiots is what pisses people off.

p.s. IE sucks

Actually I've gone back time and time again. I want to get used to it so that I can take advantage of its slightly faster page loading, but it just doesn't do it for me overall as a simple web browser. I think a lot of users try to force change ... most likely out of MS spite.

i actually went back after using 0.8 something....it's once you tries all the extensions, you never go back,

I used always use IE, but recently i just tested the performance of the 2 regarding speed, pop up stopper, and other aspects, and firefox, maybe not by a whole lot, still beat IE....the popupblocker in IE is not as efficient as in firefox. Firefox tends to load pages faster at times, and in addition to those, firefox has themes, extensions, and tabbed browsing.

The Verdict:

<pwned>firefox</pwned>

Agreed, although I do visit a few sites that aren't translated correctly in Opera, they always work in FF though.

This thread is funny!

I can't use SP2 because I use Bluetooth and my computer as a headset (for the program i'm developing), and MS have royally fvcked up Bluetooth in SP2.

Therefore, the "added features" in IE in SP2 are not going to be used by me. (from what I can see, the only useful feature is a popup blocker)

I've been using Firefox since it was called Phoenix and at 0.4, not because i want to be "different", but because I wanted to try something different, and I ended up liking it.

I've become almost *dependant* on tabbed browsing, it's much easier to have 1 browser window open and 8 tabs, along with the 4-5 other programs I have open on a daily basis (Outlook, hospital administration system, VB, PhotoShop, and 2-3 MSN Messenger windows) than 8 browser windows plus the rest.

I can now Alt-Tab between open programs, and when in Firefox, can Ctrl-Tab between the different tabs. Or I just move my mouse over the tabs, and they auto-switch to the one i'm hovering over.

Ad-Block is also a god-send, with about 15 wildcards, i have not seen an ad for ~2 months (since I installed Ad-Block and configured it), and I've not had my ears unexpectedly blasted away by some stupid Flash animation, any Flash I want to view, I tell it when to start playing.

As for popups...what popups? Only requested popups open on my machine.

I've also been to countless places to remove spy-ware from PCs, and guess what, they're all using IE. I've installed Firebird/Firefox (depending on when it was and which was the latest at the time) and I haven't heard anything from any of them since. Therefore something must be going right with Firefox.

I seriously suggest you actually try the software before bashing it, and when you do, actually have good reasons.

Oh, and IE doesn't run any web pages. IE only shows web pages...give up before you dig yourself any deeper.

The way it goes for me and my Development, I make a site that uses a lot of standard CSS, and with very few exceptions it looks beautiful in FireFox. Check it in Safari, and again a few exceptions, but usually perfect. Then I have to test it in IE and go over all the errors produced and spend hours finding the work arounds for IE's buggy CSS implementation.

I use FireFox because I like to think that Web authors should be using compliant code.

Here's an easy answer for you, OP. I started using Firefox just to see what all the hubbub was about, and I found that I love it for most things. The only real problem with it is that it doesn't render MANY pages correctly. "Why not," you ask? Because M$ has bastardized HTML code to the point that its unrecognizable to most people. The only way to get a page to display correctly in IE most of hte time is to use Frontpage and let it totally destroy the HTML so that it makes complete sense to IE. So now I'm pissed because I really do like tabbed browsing (not good to have 15 windows open at work when your boss walks up, but 1 isn't a big deal at all), and anyone that tells you that IE's popup blocker is just as good is lying to you.

So, I want to use this far superior product called Firefox, but I can't because Microsoft has deemed it so. Yes, part of me tries to use it only to spite MS, but it's for a good reason.
