thats nice.

but it worked before. no reason that it shouldnt work now.

and why should someone go into other topics? i don't really care about yagt threads, or hardware, software etc unless i have a question. do hit FS/FT and hot deals daily though.

I agree. I like the old forums better because i could go to one forum and find everything. Now i gotta manually go through each forum looking for posts.

I wish the posts were more condensed. I think each post now takes up more vertical space.

You got that error as well? I was kind of surprised to see that, I would have thought this site generated enough revenue to be able to afford the full version of fusetalk. What are we talking about, maybe $20?

Is that a joke? Fusetalk is ridiculously expensive, and the AT Forums lose money, at least that was the case a few years ago when they introduced paid memberships. I imagine that the forums still are a considerable money sink. Regarding Fusetalk, AT has a relationship with them I think some of their former staff work for Fusetalk, so I dont think AT pays very much, if anything for FT. If AT was paying a lot for FT, I'd hope they demand their money back, considering it's performance.

If Fusetalk is expensive, then Anandtech should demand a full refund.

As far as costing money goes, I flat out don't believe it. Those adds and google links you see all over the screen pay Anand money to be there. There is no doubt in my mind that Anand makes money off the forums, and a fair bit of it.
What he needs to do if hire someone to make it work right. It's obvious that whoever is in charge of the upgrade program doesn't understand how to plan, test and implement the changes. That or Fusetalk is total garbage and should be replaced with software that works.

Expensive to the tune of 4500USD.

FT has been and always will be subpar in coding and design, that much is given.. this is a whole new level.

Slow load times, a bunch of errors (in FF longer threads just go blank halfway through), slow load times, slow load times. etc. I don't know why this new version is making everything load slower though, it doesn't seem to have much more overhead.

yeah, with all these new subcategories, the OT section is certainly a lot less richer, and individual posts get less exposure when people don't consider themselves 'hardcore' enough to go out of their way into the other forum categories. it kind of makes you wonder what they were thinking when they spilt them off, eh? perhaps the intention was to reduce traffic to the off topic site to save bandwidth or something while still maintaining general hardware as the main point of AT.

To more directly answer the question, "this" was an update that FuseTalk submitted to us as a patch. They are already working on a second patch to address a second set of less critical errors ... this first patch fixed a lot of behind the scenes issues and admin/mod tools.

That isn't the point here... you can't fix it, I can't fix it... so either take the temp fix or shut up about it.

Then shut up about less traffic if you didn't read the damn threads anyway.

My god, we should just rename OT the whine forum, because that's all people do!

EDIT: Also, what's with the rampant double-posting (and sometimes triple) by long-time members here? Does anyone know forum etiquette at all?

Same with me, and now I am agreeing with others that the forum layout is crap now. Found my self going over to TFNN and found it to be more enjoying than here since the switch.

anyway, it'll be as permanent as fusetalk is ... which may be a very long time or not depending on the next few days.

I like the new subforums. I like seeing more serious responses to people's questions instead of crap like "pics?!?!?" or "did you change the blinker fluid?" The reason for the split up was that there were too many of a certain topic landing in OT, so it made it easier to keep track of threads by just making a separate forum for them. The Internet/World is a big place; plenty of stuff to keep everyone occupied.

I said a far better idea would have been to consolidate the forums we already had (turn the new hardware mega forum into a technical ATOT) and then add maybe 1-2 new broader categories.

Well alot of people kept griping about the old forums. It got pretty annoying actually. They wanted stuff seperated out, but now that it is seperated out, they don't want it anymore. I think it is funny.

That is what advanced searches are for. (Search for user MrLee, bam all your posts)

I find it funny that Hg has been able to correct a bunch of the issues all through Stylish. Meaning that we've gone from devastating issues such as jrun in the old days to just basically screwing up the css code.

And you know, I didn't think quote trees could get worse, but GIBBERISH trees seems to be the topper.
