is it just me or is ebay's new fee structure raping me harder than usual?

haven't sold on ebay in quite awhile.
sold an item last week and noticed that there was no more insertion fee. didn't bother to check since i don't ebay as much as i used to and this would be a one time thing.

it sold for $115 and got charged almost $10 from ebay, and then paypal took another $3.50ish.
that's 11%

i don't have old numbers to compare, but did it go up?

Paypal and ebay have been getting worse and worse for years. Stopped using ebay, switching to Google checkout (or checks whenever possible).

I think they increased the fees about a year ago, can't say for sure.

basically ebay does this thing where u get 5 free insertions for a 30 day period, but you get charged 8.75% final value fee on the whole acution.

before, you would pay an insertion fee, but final value fees would be something like 8.75% of the first $25.00 and then 3.50% of the rest (not sure about the exact numbers).

haven't found a way to opt out of this "savings" on auction listings.

wow 11%? wtf does ebay/paypal even provide to justify 5%

Isn't it a pain in the ass to get any paypal dispute corrected?

i wasn't sure if it was high or not. it seemed sorta high.
but they do provide the highest audience that will net you the most money for your item so i dunno.

but as far as commission, i have nothing to compare it to.

is there a way to opt back to the old system?
i start all my auctions at 99 cents so the insertion fee was negligible to me.
heh, "insertion fee"...

They got bad as they got bigger and started borging other services. Once they went public the customer became the shareholders and not those actually buying their service and the actual customer has been getting increasingly more screwed ever since.

ebay is trying to force a fixed price model. Auctions end up costing about 9% to 10% no matter how you cut them PRIOR to paypal's cut.

Fortunately forums have been able to get rid of the items I wanted to sell and I have only had to use ebay for higher ticket items that I could get better than market.

I sold my 8800GTX recently for $180...I paid only $150 for it about a year ago. I picked up a 4890 for $125 and that is the reason I sold it. Ebay / paypal ended up with about $15 of that. The kicker was my Buy It Now was only $125 and the same dude that bid first won it for almost 1.5x the price.

I still made a decent profit.

i've heard that you can use their turbolister or some other 3rd party listing programs to get around that. or you can make 5 fake/ridiculous auctions to use up those free insertions.
