Is it just me or "The Last Ship" is getting disturbingly similar to Star Trek

Starting for the second episode I am getting this feeling and this week's episode pretty much sealed the deal.

1. Captain, 1st Officer and other important people go on "missions"
2. One stronger enemy they are trying to avoid in long term, always outwitting them.
3. One logically thinking (in this case spiritually thinking) personal with unwavering support for the Captain.
4. RnRs, Captain's log, the Bridge, engineer being pushed to the brink, and other very creepy similarities that you cannot pin point but they just give you the star trek feeling.

Foot Note: Not Complaining at all, but just loving it, go Michael!

Seriously though, about the only real commonality I see is the naval captain going on missions. (Star Trek was based on the navy.)

I don't remember a lot of Star Trek episodes where the planet got wiped out by a deadly virus and they were totally on their own.

Yeah, I know... there must have at least one or two of them, but it wasn't a major theme of the show except for Voyager. Which was lame

Well, the planet gets wiped out just so that they can "explore", that "exploration" will be fueling the "filler episodes".
And I don't think they will be totally on their own, more ships will join I am sure, some will be bigger and stronger I am assuming.

If 80% of the world's population is dead or dying due to a virus, even if they find the cure, they are only going to save a few.

A Russian sub was following them to get the cure and the medical doctor when they were in gitmo, then the next episode where they ran out of water, there was no mention of the Russian ship anymore.

Seems now they have to find food and fuel just to keep going.

The exploration was fine. The running out of water cause the ship overheated was the filler.

Another similarity with Star Trek, The Romulans, Cardassian, Hirogen or the Klingons dont follow or attack them on every episode, when they do the Captain disables them and leaves...

I want them to quickly find a real cure and play post apocalyptic world series.

How I'd write it:

Season1: Virus.
Season2: Return to find US in Anarchy.
Season3: Establish a new base, civil order.
Season4: Russian Invasion.
etc...

The problem is a lot of these kind of shows run out of steam, they paint themselves into a corner.

Look at Lost for example.
