Is it normal for Chinese to sleep so much?

My in-laws are over from China and have been here for a couple of months. They sleep constantly, to the point where I'm actually wondering wtf is going on. Every night they go to bed around 7pm and get up around 7am. And then during the day they sleep for at least an hour as well. So that's 13-14 hours a day.

At first I thought perhaps they were just bored...but yeah....I do live in Las Vegas and 5 mins walk from the strip. Tends to be a few things to do around here. Plus I have a 2 year old that they can take out anytime they want.

Weird. I'm wondering if this is a cultural thing? My wife thinks nothing of it. Talk about sleeping your life away.

Well that's what I'm asking. Perhaps this is normal behavior? i don't think it is but I'm just curious.

Uh I think they're just old.

They're mid 50's dude.

Not only that, you sleep LESS the older you get, not more. Otherwise it sounds like they're suffering from depression. It is not normal or healthy to sleep that much.

Just because there are things to do where you live doesn't mean they want to do those things.

What do they do when they aren't sleeping?

If it's humanly possible, the chinese have done it. I don't really wanna draw roomate anecdotes anymore but leave it at there's some weird happenings that.. applies more to individuals than the whole group. By that I mean there's always some qwerk but it's different for everyone.

I would guess they're bored out of their minds. Not everyone enjoys Las Vegas.

I don't get why you guys are saying they're old? Mid 50s is not old in my book. Plus as mentioned you actually sleep less when you're old. My father is 70 and barely sleeps the old bastard.

I don't think they're depressed by the way. When they're awake they seem active enough.

Possibly. They don't speak a word of English so that probably doesn't help things. It makes entertaining them a bitch.

I didn't think it was normal but I thought I'd better check it case it's some Chinese custom that they've hidden from the world.

Are they the kind of asians that take lots of pictures to show to other relatives? buy 'em a expensive ass camera and drive them around vegas->grand canyon->LA or something.

or drop them off at a strip club...

Hmm, sleeping in the middle of the day makes sense (a lot of people in China take mid-day naps), but going to bed at 7 pm is really early no matter how old you are. The people who go to bed that early tend to get up super early too, so they end up getting a normal amount of sleep.

You THINK they're sleeping when they go to bed at 7pm, but they're actually fucking like rabbits in their room for 4 hours before they actually call it a night.
