I don't get why you guys are saying they're old? Mid 50s is not old in my book. Plus as mentioned you actually sleep less when you're old. My father is 70 and barely sleeps the old bastard.
I don't think they're depressed by the way. When they're awake they seem active enough.

My in-laws are over from China and have been here for a couple of months. They sleep constantly, to the point where I'm actually wondering wtf is going on. Every night they go to bed around 7pm and get up around 7am. And then during the day they sleep for at least an hour as well. So that's 13-14 hours a day.
At first I thought perhaps they were just bored...but yeah....I do live in Las Vegas and 5 mins walk from the strip. Tends to be a few things to do around here. Plus I have a 2 year old that they can take out anytime they want.
Weird. I'm wondering if this is a cultural thing? My wife thinks nothing of it. Talk about sleeping your life away.

50's is definitely nowhere near old unless you're not even legal age.
Only if by Chinese, you mean cats.Is it normal for Chinese to sleep so much?

when chinese people are able they like to sleep as much as possible because the factories make them work like 22 hours a day 7 days a week. so it feels good to them to have such a nice break.

It's a cultural thing. When I was in China, I would see people sleeping wherever they could, and they would fall asleep at the snap of a finger. Schedules in china tend to be more intermittent than they are here, so they try to sleep whenever they can.
