Is it normal for Chinese to sleep so much?

Try to go to a different country where you don't speak the language and you have no hobbies (because certain generations just don't like to do anything). I'm sure you'll just start sleeping around too.

I don't think they're depressed by the way. When they're awake they seem active enough.

old people dont sleep much, more than 12 hours wouldn't be normal. i think they sleep so much is because they aint got shit to do here and even the TV sucked and not worth watching. try to buy them some chinese drama series to play it on their room or something.

Weird. I'm wondering if this is a cultural thing? My wife thinks nothing of it. Talk about sleeping your life away.

And after they eat, do they always seem hungry right away (again)? Happens to me as well

when chinese people are able they like to sleep as much as possible because the factories make them work like 22 hours a day 7 days a week. so it feels good to them to have such a nice break.

I'm guessing that it's a combination of them being jet lagged and bored. Because of the language barrier, they probably find it very intimidating to go to the strip/sightseeing (I'm guessing they don't have licenses and have no means for transportation...)/do anything beyond moping around the house. Since they're so bored out of their minds, it probably made getting over jet lag a difficult task since they don't really have anything to do to normalize their schedule.

Out of curiosity, have you and your wife taken them anywhere or done anything special for them, or do you guys just sort of leave them be?

I sleep when i'm on vacation...and i'm chinese...normal work days i only get 6 hours of sleep max...

If they don't speak English then their choices are probably limited. Get them some Chinese drama shows to keep them entertained, maybe even subbed in English so you can watch too.

My parents are in their mid 50's...my mom sleeps about 8 hours a night, my dad gets 7-8 as well. *shrugs*

It's a cultural thing. When I was in China, I would see people sleeping wherever they could, and they would fall asleep at the snap of a finger. Schedules in china tend to be more intermittent than they are here, so they try to sleep whenever they can.

True... but they don't tend to sleep MORE. Most, if not all, of the people I know in China tend to go to bed really late and wake up late (but not too late for work). Maybe 6 hours of sleep. And then they take a nap during the day.. typically after lunch. But I've never known a Chinese person to sleep actually MORE than a typical American.
