yes, but I don't think that is sport hunting.

For one thing--you can't really eat carnivore meat--it's loaded with nasty bacteria and god damn crazy shit you don't want in your system. Few people that hunt bear actually eat that meat--and the only way to eat it is to boil it until it becomes a rubbery, greasy mess.

fuck that.

Well then wear the skin of the lion to become the village chief.

No, killing animals is wrong.

A cute little animal spends its life out in the wild living it up and then ends its life in a couple of minutes of pain as it bleeds out. It's horrible.

It's much worse to raise an animal from cradle to grave in a tiny squalid cage and then humanely put a bolt in their head. Just like God intended.

---

Jokes aside my view of killing rarer animals like Lions is less obvious. In North America there are many many millions of deer, but still I want to see people eat them. Killing something just to kill it seems a bit barbaric.

I don't have a problem with real hunting.

I have a problem with canned hunting, ie: fake hunting which is what almost all these "celebrity" hunters/wannabe hunters do.

I also have a problem with exotic game ranches in the US(most of them are in Texas). They all use canned hunts and previously you could go mindlessly killed endangered species(without a license) as long as you could afford it.

I love to hunt. Nothing more exhilarating than a 400 yard heart shot with a .30-.30 round. I do not like deer meat. Too gamey. I do enjoy the 10 pointer decorating the wall of my man cave.

Fear me. I am man.

no idea what the Bachman shitstorm is. I don't pay attention to those assclowns.

I grew up hunting, whole family hunts. Most don't have a use for the meat since their freezers are full, so they donate it to needy families.

I no longer hunt though. Too early and too cold. If I could schedule it for 3pm in July it would be different.

you seriously have a 42'' 30-30 rifle?

I pondered it for a second, yeah, that would be hilarious walking through the woods with a 40" barrel rifle.
Go big or go home. If I'm going to piss off the PETA people, might as well look like a bad ass doing it.

It's fun to kill animals. As long as you keep it legal and the meat doesn't go to waste, I don't have a problem with it.

only if the hunter is equipped with just a knife. Level the playing field and we'll see what's what!

People who hunt for sport disgust me! yeah...you're a real man...NOT!!

What Bachman did was wrong because it was more or less a canned lion hunt - in other words, the lion was not free. They keep them in cages until someone pays to shoot them, and then let them out into a private hunting park. Plus, lI dont think lion meat is very good to eat.

However, I dont agree with what people have said about her. They have called for her to never be allowed back into South Africa - but nobody says a word when other people do exactly the same thing. Its only because this reached the media that anybody gives a damn. Nobody is campaigning to have the law changed to make canned lion hunting illegal. They just want a scapegoat to hate.

That being said, I dont have a problem with hunting in the following circumstances:
1. The animal is free to live in the wild for the majority of its life.
2. The meat will be used.
3. The hunt is sporting - in other words no Smart Guns from Aliens.
4. The animal does not suffer needlessly.

Note that I dont hunt and will never hunt. But I'm not going to crucify somebody who does, as long as they do it in the above manner.

generally I agree, but I don't think it's quite as simple as labeling it as scapegoating.

If you think it is right to protest this practice, then there is no better way to get your message out there to point to a celebrity that is clearly engaging in that practice, and call them out on it. Maybe such a ban would work if it actually encourages SA to change its mind over this practice--but all of us know that will never happen in such a corrupt, failing state. So, I think dragging the media into this and going medieval on this one person is an appropriate strategy--now the general public is talking about it--but the reality is that you're dealing with a country that is never going to concede.

Difference in finding and killing a deer, and what that chick did with the lion.

How hard is it to kill a lion? You pay your money, they guide takes you to where the lions are, and you shoot one.

You don't have to stalk, scout, set up a stand, figure out where they travel, etc....you just show up, and it's basically an execution. She shot the lion at 60 yards, according to her.

How the hell is that hunting? Lions aren't afraid of you, so it's not like a deer/other similar animal, where you have to be super-quiet and worry about scaring them off.

I realize that the local villagers probably did eat the lion meat and all, but seriously....that's not why she killed it.

Someone wants to actually go hunt? Fine. Super-big animals like these? That's not hunting, that's killing for fun.

I dated a girl who's father ran a "canned" hunting park. He kept animals on his land, and then when a guy or team of guys paid, he'd let whatever they wanted to hunt out of their designated areas and let them wander the rest of the land.

However, the animals were consumed, so in the end it was really no different than if they went into some random wooded area.

In moderation, I think it's ok. Big game populations should be watched though. Conservationists are trying to get African Lions listed as endangered, and I feel there's good reason to based on what I've read.

I am pro hunting. it is good for the animals (well not those that get eaten) and good for the environment. Also venison is yummy

Saying that. Hunting for pure sport is idiotic. killing a Lion? fuck you.

I hunt, mainly for the sport but I do eat some of the kills. Anything that I don't I give to my parents. I don't care if someone does it purely for the sport or for the meat as long as they did it legally, canned or not.

Texas has an overabundance of white tail, doves, and feral hog. White tail/axis/black buck/any deer can be taken to a processing facility and packaged.

Hog and dove you are on your own, since nearly all professional meat processors will not take in either for health and safety reasons.

Hog season is year round. Those fuckers destroy land like nothing I've seen before - their population would spiral out of control if it weren't for such lax hog hunting regulations.

Absolutely OK unless it's a protected animal, done unsafely, illegal, unnecessarily inhumane, or for lack of a better term in bad taste.

I would never hunt and don't find it interesting at all, but people should be free to do what they want. We slaughter millions of animals a year and I find this no different. Arguments like 'as long as you use the meat' are just window dressing IMO - the food industry does far worse and wastes far more every hour than hunting probably does annually.

- Unnecessarily inhumane - killing is ugly, slaughterhouses are ugly, so don't do anything to cause unnecessary pain beyond what's necessary.
- In bad taste - others should be free to not be exposed to hunting. So even if it's legal and safe, don't be gunning down and slaughtering animals where the general public is exposed to it unless they want to.

The only problem I have is that canned hunts just aren't any fun. It is like shooting a friendly dog. Where is the sport in that? They come up and want you to pet them, and you blast one in their head?

Now, if Bachman had actually hunted a lion, I'd be perfectly okay with that.

I am also a big fan of bow hunter, despite being terrible at it. I couldn't kill a balloon 20 yards away with a bow, let alone a deer. =(

I don't really understand it, but I have no problem with it either. I have no desire to kill anything unless I'm going to eat it. Don't mistake that attitude for me giving a shit about animals though. I don't care how many of them hunters kill. It just isn't a fun activity for me.

Most hunters around here hunt by waiting in deer stands over food plots or areas with high animal traffic until something they want to kill comes out, then they sight in and pull the trigger. Afterwards they take triumphant looking pictures over the carcass as though they actually accomplished something. That's all there is to it.

That's fun? Not for me. I've done it a few times. Killed my fair share of deer and hogs. Never once gave a fuck about any of it. I love to eat wild game though. Problem is that I have so many friends that kill a surplus of meat that I always manage to get plenty from them without hunting myself. I don't even ask for it. They all fill their freezers up, but they love hunting so much that they don't stop just because they have nowhere to store the meat. I've gotten whole deer from people because of that. I think it works out great actually.

Edit: As for the Bachman thing; Was she hunting legally as part of a program that ensures that the hunted animals aren't endangered as a species? If so, then I have no problem with that either. We've demonstrated that it's possible to have a "hunting season" on certain animals without endangering them as a species. In fact, the interest generated by people who wish to hunt the animals is often the best protection a species could ever have. Hunters will keep the herd healthy mainly because they want to be able to hunt them in perpetuity.

Honestly, I don't care what method they use to kill them either. This whole "well if they were hunting them with pocket knives I'd be ok with it" notion people have is a mystery to me. For all I care, they could be planting plastic explosive in hunks of meat and chuckling as they blow lions up as long as they are only killing enough to manage the herd.
