Is it possiable to get DD 5.1 sound with a Audigy 2 Zs??

If so how?!?!
Heres the thing, on my old pc I ran creative's mpeg2 decoder card that had a digital connection to my creative 5.1 speakers...i forget which ones these are but these are the first 5.1's they made and are the white ones. When I ran a dvd movie the dolby digital light would go on.....


okie built new pc and wanna try and ditch the decoder card...because from what i understand the audigy2's support dolby digital...but when i play dvd movies...its not dd sound....for those with a audigy2...when i set speaker settings to digital output only....only the front 2 spears work and thats it....no matter what i do i canit get more then 2 front speakrers to work in "digital only output" and canit get dobly digital in dvd movies.

does anyone know what is up?

If your playing a DVD movie that has a DD soundtrack, you have to pass it through to your speakers.
Not sure with the ZS, but with the Audigy 2, the setting is in AudioHQ. You have to disable Audigy2's DD decoding so that the DD stream is passed to your speakers to decode.

With your Audigy2 ZS, if your speakers have analog input, I'd just use those. If playing a DVD movie, just let the ZS do the decoding and output analog.
If your speakers has that proprietary Creative digital-din jack, then you can use the digital output on the ZS for multichannel sound, but from your problem, I don't think it has it, so your only gonna get stereo for non-DD sources. Also, if you ever plan to play DVD-audio discs, you need to use analog anyway.

And no, using the analog output for DD is not gonna sound worse then using the speaker decoders (it should sound better actually). Unless you got major electrical interference that's messing up the analog signals badly.

thanks for the bit on how to change the Zs settings in the HQ, never knew that. but here is the thing.......if its playing DD sound shouldnt the DD light be on? it did with the mpeg card. no matter what settings i change i can never get the light to be on. And when the settings are dd it really doesnt even sound like dd to be honest.

do you know where the speaker settings are? if i set them to 5.1 and digital only...........then just the front 2 speakers work...

maybe it is the card? should i get a new one?

Use the analog connections. The Audigy 2 series' DACs are superior to the onboard DAC of any Creative digital speaker systems.

Only if you pass the digital din out from your dvd decoder card to the digital input on your speaker control box.

If you have the platinum version of the audigy2zs you could output from there to the input on the speakers, might work on the regular version with the digital out but you would have to adapt the connections. Theres a creative news server might be able to help you more news.creativelabs.com
