Is it possible to be a gay baptist?

I'm just curious....I'm glad to say, I'm neither. I live in the middle of the bible belt and it seems that people around here have a major problem with the concept of gayity in their deity...

I'd say its possible, but you'd probably end up fundamentally opposed to your own existence.

I don't know if all Baptist churches are the same, but in mine I would say 'no'. I don't believe you can be a member if you are a homosexual.

You can be gay, and not actively have homosexual encounters.
Also, homosexuality is considered a sin.
What else is considered a sin?

the text condemns the act, and only the act

so you CAN be "gay" so long as you don't get your groove on

shrug

In my beliefs of what the bible says, it isn't really possible to put the two together. I don't believe the baptist denomination agrees with homosexuality, in general, either.

My daddy always used to say "you better go to church on Sunday and take note of who is in the front row, cause on Monday they were very likely to screw you" and I guess that could be literally or figuratively.

OBTW, where I live has often been called the "buckle of the bible belt"

Does the baptist denomination agree with lying, and swearing, and using the lord's name in vain? Adultery? Stealing? Drinking? Can you be a baptist if you do any of those things? I'm not sure if those are sins in the eyes of God, but I believe they are.

Yeah, what they said, as long as you aren't having relations it should be kosher (so to speak).

I hope when you say Kosher, you mean "proper" and aren't making some kind of gay pickle joke...

You are pulling the two apart and speaking of sins talked about in the bible. Being a Gay Baptist sounds as though you are saying it is okay to be that and that the baptist agree with that lifestyle.

The Baptist denomination does not allow Gay Baptists, Lying Baptist Ministers, or Baptist Thieves. None fit with one another.

"Everyone falls and comes short of the glory of God." But I believe if you arn't making an attempt to live your life in line with a specific denomination, you can't, or shouldn't, try to associate yourself with the rules that they intend to live their life by.

Aren't all Baptists gay? I knew a Baptist family once. They took me to their church one time and everybody I saw was in a good mood. :

My adopted parents are Baptist... I'm gay. I've attended their church several times... I hate it... on the rare occasion that I go, it's just to please my parents. Most of the people at the church know that I'm gay (thanks to the %^$#*@^ prayer chain), so they're always praying for me when I'm there.... arg.

I believe that Christianity and homosexuality *can* be mixed. It's just much, much harder to do when you're talking about Baptists.

I understand what you are saying. But being gay is not someone's entire life. Just like lying occasionally, or drinking alot. It's a small part of a life that people make out to be a big deal. On both sides.
Is a sin a sin?
Or are there degrees? And if so, who created those degrees? If you have used, and still do use, the lord's name in vain, should you be allowed to be a baptist?
Because I know many baptists who do. Why isn't there a big deal about this?
My beef is not with the religion. If you can't stick with a religion and play by the rules, you shouldn't be in it.
It's more or less with the idea that some sins are acceptable, and some or not.
Those that are somewhat acceptable, are not acceptable in the eyes of God, but in the eyes of man.

There is a Baptist church in town with a gay preacher. Over 50% of the congregation is gay too.

The question is "What's stopping you?"

The rules set forth by a preacher/minister who apparently knows exactly what God wants, or your own fear of being chastized by the rest of the congregation?

I think it would more or less be acceptance. I don't believe they can make you leave, may'be they can, maybe they can't.
It's more or less knowing that they don't want you there.
Personally I think church and religion is a complete waste of time. If you believe in God, you can do that without going to a church, or becoming a baptist. Why label yourself or what you believe with some society accepted standard? Religion and church at times seems to be a form of organized insanity.

Sure it is possible...just don't tell the Church members. I found out that one of my old roommates was gay and asked him a lot of questions about his lifestyle and whatnot. Since we live in the south...that kind of behavior is fairly looked down upon. He told me that most of his sexual relationships had been with married men...many of whom were active in church, etc. and we live in Baptist country. I found that interesting.
