Is it possible to fileshare between a win98 comp and xp comp?

I have a win98 computer hooked up to my network along with my xp computer and my 98 has a floppy drive and I need to get some files off my floppy and onto my xp and I just tried to go to my network neighborhood in 98 and it said no other computers were located so how do you share files between a 98 and xp

Yes, in fact that's how I pulled about 10GB of files off my old PIII laptop onto my newer XP machine.

Your best bet would be to access the 98 box from Windows XP than viceversa, as it will be easier for the XP box to 'see' the 98 box than the other way around because of XP's improved networking capabilities.

Just click on the 'Set up a home network or small office' option in XP's my Network places; the OS will walk you through the entire process.

I believe in Windows 98, you need to install the Client for Microsoft Networks, under your network settings, if you haven't done so.

It isn't installed by default, as it does for Windows XP.

Ok I ran the 'Set up a home network or small office', then I installed the client for microsoft networks on the 98 computer

Now do I need to run the network disc on the 98 computer? If not I go to network places there is nothing there, click view network connections its the connections for this computer "Hamachi, LAN, 1394" if I click view work group computers it locks up and I have to alt+ctrl+del it

Here's a nice tutorial from Microsoft to do what you are trying to do.

I did this a while ago; in fact I did it before SP2 had even been released but I don't think it has changed much. I remember having trouble making the 98 box 'see' my XP box, but it worked perfectly viceversa, which shouldn't be a problem if you are trying to get the files from the 98 box to the XP box.

Is the 98 computer accesible from 'mY Networks places' in XP?

You can DEFINATELY file-share between Win98 and WinXP... I do it all the time!

You don't need to make a disk for Windows 98, as XP prompts you to at the end of the wizard, if you have an XP CD. You can run the wizard on the 98 machine from the autostart menu on the XP CD. That wizard will probably take care of everything for you, just answer the questions just like you did on the XP machine.
