Is it possible to install CPU the wrong way? (Had to use force for Heatsink? Help)

SORRY for being annoying and having a new question every minute...

I just put the CPU into the socket and lowered the lever to put it in. Is it possible to put the CPU in there in the wrong way/direction? Or would it not fit if it was in that way? I've used hardly any force and it seems to fit perfectly.

Edit : Heatsink : Argh. I tried installing it like it is shown online (very simple) but the two sides would simply not latch in. And then the heatsink got stuck to the cpu due to the thermal pad. Anyway, one of the sides I latched on, but the side with the big black lever wouldnt latch on so I had to push on it with a screwdriver using some force. Is this normal? I was doing everything like in the instructions but it just wasnt going on.

It's latched in snug. I hope I didn't screw anything up Anyone with their experiences?

The cpu will not go in without force if the pins are aligned properly. If the cpu justs drops right in and is flush with the socket you are good to go. Look at the bottom of the cpu and the pin placement then look at the socket you should see a matching pattern.

Edit: The only annoying question is the one not asked

Well, [Rant] that and flamebaiting, irrational, bombastic, self-grandizing posts made by room temperature in Alaska IQ'd small minded individuals who get ego stroking out of assumed external validations. [/Rant]

It just dropped straight in. I'm assuming it went in right.

Now for the hardest part of this whole project...the heatsink.

EDIT:

It is not possible to install the CPU the wrong way without damaging it. The heatsink clips could be loose, and your heatsink could be fine, just not on properly.

As long as the heatsink is firmly secured to the board, you are ok, but make sure it is FIRMLY SECURED. You should be able to life the entire motherboard off whatever surface you're using simply by holding on to the heatsink. Make sure, also, that the sink is flush with the processor and there are no gaps around the heatsink socket.

Hmm installing the heatsink included some force. Otherwise it wouldnt latch on both sides so I had to push it down with a screwdriver. It seems snug. I hope I didn't break anything. *sigh*

What CPU and heatsink? I've done a couple of Intel P4 Prescott builds where the motherboard flexed too much on the standoffs for you to get sufficient pressure on the heatsink retention pins for them to lock. Might want to install the CPU/Heatsink before putting the motherboard in the case, or maybe I'm just a n00b for doing it in the wrong order
