Is it possible to replace a laptop screen?

My nephew was gaming on my laptop and spilled some water...some simple harmless water. But he freaked a bit, grabbed a brillow pad and..well-I just can't look at the screen anymore.

So many scratches....

The laptop itself is blazingly fast and I don't want to have to replace the whole thing - is it possible to order a JUST a new screen for a laptop?

Brillo pad? why? as previous poster said, check ebay... its really quite easy to do if you can find the screen.

Also, I'd call or email the manufacturer. Warranty may cover it, or the manufacturer may sell you the part.

Your brillo pad doesn't warrant a free replacement.

eBay has replacement screens available at reasonable prices, but doing the replacement may be more than easy. A competent specialist may be in store. If you think you're capable, go for it, or just send it back to the factory.....

A brillo pad?? I don't keep brillo pad's in convenient locations.... as their use is limited. So, in a "panic" situation, I can think of at least half a dozen items better suited to clean up water that would be much more accessible. It would be like if there was a small kitchen fire, I run past two sinks and a gallon of bottled water to dig in a closet to get shaving cream.... it just doesn't make sense. Eh, I guess we've all done things that, in retrospect, seemed foolish.

More on topic, you'll likely have to send it to the mfg. (Dell, HP, etc.) and pay for a replacement.... I don't see this being anywhere close to cheap though.

It's definitely possible and I don't think it'll be as expensive as others may make it sound. I have an old laptop with a bad screen and I can get it replaced for $300 by a computer repair shop. I'm sure that doing it yourself is cheaper. However, I hear that it can be tricky to do by yourself. I haven't sprung for the $300 - I just hooked an external monitor up to the laptop. So, well, it's not a laptop exactly anymore, but it still works fine.

Depends on the laptop brand, model. Mainstream laptops such as Dells and HP's are going to be pretty easy and relatively cheap to do, since eb*y is flooded with broken/parts for them. Something like a Sony would be awfully expensive though and probably not worth it.

Ive done a few LCD screen swaps and hinge repairs, its pretty damned easy, unless the manufacturer doesn't want it to be servicable... about the only company that comes to mind in this regard is Sony.

Yeap. I can change the screens in some of my Toshiab M20's in 15 minutes.

i've done quit a few different brands. mostly easy to do.

there's lots of good free photo-featured laptop screen R&R tutorials on the 'net too.

It even has step by step procedure on how to remove and install the new one. Another thing also is you can opt to buy a better LCD with Tru-brite or glossy screen. Goodluck.
