Is it possible to sell anything on the internet anymore?

I've been trying to sell my old laptop for about 3 months now. Every time I list it on eBay I get a Nigeria scam. That happened 4 times in a row so I finally gave up once my listing fees went over $100. So I turned to craigslist, then BAM, another scammer. At least this won't cost me any money but it getting pretty damn frustrating.

Is this the state of things now? Has this been the experience of others?

Sell it on ebay, but mark it so you have to approve the bidders first. That way you can check them out.

And simply put in your ad that you will not ship the laptop anywhere outside the US (if on ebay) or anywhere at all if on craigslist. That takes care of most of the scammers.

Yeah I have done that but it doesn't seem to help anymore. One person even sent me a fake paypal email "confirming payment" and they demanded that I ship to them. Good thing I never click on a link from a paypal email. I logged on the paypal myself and sure enough no payment.

I've never had a scam bidder. If you do, you don't have to pay the auction fees though, you can sell offer it to the next-highest bidder. Or, you can contact eBay and tell them the situation.

Because thats how they kept getting me.
I complained to eBay though, and got it all refunded, and gave up with eBay.

The scammers are everywhere, but that's why I like craigslist: if a scammer tries to 'buy' the item, you just ignore him and move on to other people that are legit. Cost you nothing, and no hassles getting listing fees etc back.

I sell stuff here on AT and on XS. That's it. I do my homework on the guy I'm dealing with, and I have a set of rules they must agree to before we go through with the deal. Got burned once, haven't wanted to repeat it, and haven't yet.

I thought the main purpose behind craiglist was to find local buyers?

I love craigslist. I usually sell whatever it is I need, to the small Alaska market, much quicker than it takes to sell on ebay, and for roughly the same $$$. I haven't been to ebay since.
