Had a conversation with a legally blind-at-birth person before. The honest answer to this is, they don't know colors. They can only associate it with a certain element.

'Red' as Fire
'Blue' as the Ocean
'Green' as the Pastures

ect. They will understand the association, but they can't "see" the actual color.
