You could possibly recover to YOUR hard drive installed in your WIFE's laptop, boot the system, configure it, then sys prep it. Remove the drive and put it in your machine with minimal issues. However, even if this does work, there is the issue of the license, which, as someone said, is tied to your WIFE's machine, not yours. Even if it doesn't pitch a fit, you are still in violation, and I would not recommend it.
In addition to the license, you will also have all of the software, and drivers for your wife's PC installed in the system (they will be stripped during sys prep, but they will still be on the system) so it won't be super clean. All in all just better to get a licensed copy and install fresh if you want to move to 7.
