Must of been a newbie telemarketer anyway. My friends have worked as telemarketers through HS, they would make 300-500 calls a day. They would get cursed out and hung up on all the time. So I guess sje must of been new and hasn't gotten used to it. Don't worry about it, it's prolly some 17 year old girl.

My new thing now is to ask them who they wish to speak with again, then put them on hold for 1-2 mins. Then I pick up again and ask them who they are, then put them on hold for another 1-2 mins. They usually hang up after that. One time I had one hang on for 7 mins. But things have tapered off since the 3 months after the Do Not Call Registry.

If you're in the U.S., get yourself on the national Do Not Call list. I used to receive multiple calls literally every single night, and now I don't.

If you've got a fax machine, you can always transfer them to that number (it's been a favorite when I get calls like that at work).

If you want to screw with them, string them along like you're going to buy from them, then change your mind at the last minute and hang up on them.

I dont hang up right like that; they're just doin their job and I'm sure it cant be too fun for them, so I just tell them I'm not interested and then hang up. I don't want to make anyone else mad; they really don't bother me all that much either.

When they call tell them that someone is at the door and quitely set the phone down, go on doing whatever you were doing and see how long they stay on . (longest we have ever had someone on the line is 17 min.

JBAR, have you been back for a while, or just recently?

Anyway, I do the same thing but I don't even wait for the telemarketer to get on the line. When I pick up the phone and say hello, I will wait two seconds and say hello again. If I don't get a response, I hang up. Only one time out of hundreds did I hang up on a non-telemarketer.

I don't think it's rude. It's not like you asked them to call you. I don't think one should verbally assault or otherwise attack telemarketers. You're actually doing them a favor by not wasting any more of their time than is necessary.

I toy with them sometimes... act REALLY interested in what they have to say... like those calls I've been getting about going to Disney Land...

"oh great! I was planning on going, and now I've been invited as a guest?!?! That's perfect! when will my plane tickets get here?"
