but i dont really have any way to adjust them to get the withholdings to be right

plus as my taxable dividend amounts go up every year, more of the tax surplus is used to pay the taxes for those

My taxes are stupid easy to do. I could do the ez form if it weren't for the HSA which requires the long form which I leave 90% blank.

I get excited, but nervous at the same time. Always scared that I end up owing, but so far it's only happened once, and it's because I did not buy RRSPs that year. I buy a couple grand of RRSPs every year now and so far so good, I usually get 1-2 grand back, which is nice as I usually use that towards buying a big toy, like new computer, server or what not.

In January I also get my company shares which is usually around 5k. I usually put some of that into RRSPs and the rest towards house projects or paying any debt that I might have.

We used to also get a bonus, which was like 2 grand or so, but they got rid of that in the last collective agreement. I heard rumors we might get it back though. That will be nice.

Would also be nice if my company did not wait last minute to send our T4 slips. They always send it weeks before the tax deadline so I have to wait so long to find out what I get back.

This may be the first year out of college that I actually get a refund. Because I quit my job in the summer to go back to school, therefore paying almost 1.7x in taxes versus what I needed to.

This. Although with all my overtime it's getting hard for me to not get back a decent amount because it's overwitheld during those pay periods. Not something I can really predict or plan for.

This is what I don't understand and will never understand. So you got some extra cash, that you planned on this windfall, YOUR MONEY by the way that the government got to use in any means they see fit without interest, and already have it spent before it is even in your hands.

You don't get rich by spending money. Make every single person make quarterly payments so they see what they pay in taxes.

MY NORMAL BONUS was a lot less this year due to some unforeseen circumstances during Q3...didn't have time to adjust my W-4 to compensate resulting in a large overpayment of taxes.

I think I'll be getting a refund this year because I forgot to adjust my witholdings when the year started. I had it high at the end of last year because I knew I would owe major. I still had to pay $5k on top but it sure helped.

I don't understand and cannot understand this mentality.

Same reason I get pissed at the tax return commercials that say well give you a loan on your tax refund and promise to do your taxes without one.

I do 1099 work and I never have any idea how its going to play out of the year

I pretty much quit that this year, but I have a lil guy turning one in a few weeks so who knows whats up this year



the free loan to uncle sam means a lot less now than it did

low risk investments are clearing much at all, so you aren't missing out like you used to
