Is it still crazy to scan 1000 magazines?

Well the scanner finally kicked the bucket.

RIP Canon Canoscan 670U September 2001 - March 2008

----------------------------------

I have collected over 15 years of Aquarium magazines but they are taking a lot of room up in my den. I don't have the heart to just throw them away (I will probably give them to a local library) but I am still in the hobby and I still enjoy reading them and using them as a resource.

Do you think it's crazy to scan 600+ mags? I won't be scanning every page but all pages with articles on them so for example a 70 page mag will have 45-50 pages that have articles or pictures on them.

I guess I will find out how tough my Canon Scanner is

To update:

633/637 (99.37%) Done

4 mags to go

52000+ scans

21gb of scans

314 lbs (144kg)weight

No Torrents

Aquaman

Just store em away. If you wanted to work hard, it'd be a magazine a day. Don't tell me you can do 100 scans a day, even 50 a day is pushing it. I would store em in a box.

Well actually it might take really long with the Canon but there are scanners that are pretty blazing fast...
On the cheap end I think the Epson Perfection line scans blazingly fast...and if you can somehow figure out how to rig that little button to auto-scan to Adobe Acrobat(I think this is possible with the Scan to Application feature) then you're all set.

But yeah assuming you have one of those thin Canon ones this is gonna take a while...

You're just going to give them away to a library? Ebay that!
15 years of comics has got to be worth some good money to someone at least.

Do you know anyone that has a MFU (multifunction unit) at their place of employment, with scan to PDF capabilities?

Several of our clients have the Canon ImageRunner's, and although the lower end models don't scan in color (only B&W), it sure makes it a heck of a lot easier to scan through hundreds of pages at once, right into 1 PDF file.

I would just get a bunch of binders with full-page slides and tear out the stuff that really matters. You could probably fit about 15-20 mags per binder. There are probably a bunch of ads you would get rid of too.
