Do you think it's crazy to scan 500+ mags?
Yes, a little crazy. Then again, you could just pay some local kid to scan them for you for $50 or so.

So you are not really a magazine collector, you just want to archive the magazines for the articles?
Are you sure some library near you doesn't have the that magazine on Microfische?

I would just get a bunch of binders with full-page slides and tear out the stuff that really matters. You could probably fit about 15-20 mags per binder. There are probably a bunch of ads you would get rid of too.

I don't know much about your scanner, but they make scanners with automatic feeds and batch modes. The place I used to work at had them set up to do a lot of scanning in the library ariel machine. Of course if you did it this way it would destroy the magizine when you seperated the pages from the binding.
I think if you do 1 in half an hour you are doing good. It will only take a couple months to do them all. (Well depending on how many come in a year.)

They probably do but our library system is quite big (city of 1 million) It does not hurt to have extra copies

I meant if the library has them on Microfische, then you don't really need to archive your collection.

I know people who have ripped and encoded 500+ CD's, so I wouldnt assume doing magazines is crazy if thats your thing. God knows you kick EAC to high and get a CD with some scratches on it and it'll take longer to rip that then scan 5 magazines!!
BTW, when will these be available for "online browsing"

Have you tried contacting the magazine publisher? They often have digital scans of their own magazine that they can ship you. Especially now, considering alot of magazines also release a digital version as well as a printed version.
