/em raises hand.

MCSE is needed and looked upon as basic in higher level desktop. Look at companies like Yahoo and Google. Their level 1 desktop support requires MCSE... REQUIRES. Yes it's hard, yes it's time consuming and the exam will fry your brain and you vary well may hate computers when it's over. It's supposed to. MCSE is where you seperate the "men from the boys" so to speak. Those who are in it just for the paycheck will not make it through MCSE.

This isn't about MCSE now is it. It's about A+

What are some good practice tests online for the A+? I've been reading the study guide and grow bored with many parts of it. Also where can you take the test? CompUSA is the only place I know of.

These certs last a lifetime right? So when they update the test, are you suppose to go in for a renewal process or what?

/me Tentatively raises hand.. looks around.. wondering if anyone else is going to also..

Most certs aren't terribly difficult to obtain.. read a book on it, practice a bit.. and you're fine (perhaps take a class you need hands on experience.. and the equipment necessary is prohibitively expensive..).

Not saying anyone can go and just become a CCIE (now there's a cert that'll get you noticed!) easily.. but a few years using the products you're getting certified on (and who DOESN'T use Microsoft products ;p) is a good start, IMO..

I'm studying for my A+ then Network+ next. Considering a 4 year college degree is needed to get a help desk job around here, I figured certifications wouldn't hurt. College is out of mt budget at the moment although I tested for ITT Tech and got accepted, just can't find the funding.

If you have experience it is a very good cert to hav ,if you dont have any experience then its pretty much useless.I find the questions in the exam are pretty good actually , unfortunately merciless braindumping has really badly damaged the cert though .

If you can honestly understand what us guys are talking about in the OS and Hardware Forums , then I'd say go for it . If you can tell your future employer that due to your passion for IT you decided to write the exam to validate your IT knowledge they will be no doubt be impressed

Ps 85% of all entry level tech jobs require that you have A+ , so If you think that you want to go into that direction , go for it
