Is it worth it?

I own,as you can see, an Asus P3V4X mobo and a P3 533MHz (katmai) CPU (and am very happy),
but it's baginning to show its age...

I have this mobo and cpu for over a year now, and i don't know if or what part i should upgrade...

I was thinking of getting a mobo+cpu combo such as ASUS A7V-E and AMD Duron 800MHz (and doing some
overclocking to that Duron...)

What do you think?

Will i get much of an improvement going from my current setup to,as already mentioned,a new mobo+cpu combo?

Should i go for a new P3 700e and do some overclockin' instead?

I must say i am aware that my video card (Matrox G450) is limiting me in 3D, and though
i don't play that much, will i see an improvement in that category too?

A duron 800 can usually be overclocked to 1GHZ, at which point there will be significant differances in computing power from your P3. If you dont overclock it, the upgrade seems silly, you would be paying way to much for the motherboard to justify a small upgrade. I would leap ahead to a 1.2GHZ Athlon, they are around $100, and there you will see hella performance increase over your current setup. A duron 800 though...na.

edit: I see you planned on overclocking the duron. Still, I would go athlon, it is a better chip and can be overclocked much more. I am currnetly 420MHZ out of spec on my 1GHZ tbird.

From what I understand- go with the 700's or 750's, they top out the same as the 800's - may save you a few bucks

wait, you are quibbling over the 10 dollar difference between the 700 and 800 duron? Please, I don't think he should upgrade to a duron at all, seeing as how he would need a new motherboard, and at that point he should be thinking athlon for sure! $220 should get you a good motherboard and a 1.2GHZ T-bird, which would probably OC to 1.4 or 1.5. That is my opinion. The IWILL KK266 is a great board, and around $100, with good overclocking features. Otherwise, the KT7A is good.

tbird 1.2 266 (hopefully overclock it)
256megs pc2100 crucial
geforce 2 gts card

going to cost about 300$ for the new parts i guess. a little more. can sell the old for a little bit. would it be worth it or should i just wait? (i dont want to wait for prices to come down on the nforce and athlon4, they will be too expensive when they first come out and dont want to really wait unless it's in my best interest).
