is it worth runing SETI on these 2 machines?

One has a 800mhz cele and about 128mb of ram, windows 2k
other is a 366mhz cele with same amount of ram, windows 2k
EDIT: its not a 366, its a 550
is it worth the trouble to set up SETI clients on them and leave them running? Or will the WorkUnit amount be too low as to not to bother?

BTW, my 2.15 GHZ AMD, 1 gig of ram, crunch SETI workunits nicely

Don't know how many wu you'll get with those two crunchers, but every wu helps!

If the other guys says it's not worth it, than please try DPAD, it runs great on older pcs.

I have two 800 MHz celeries in my fleet. Both run on old 440 BX boards, one on Win98 (bleh!) and one on Win2K. Average wu times are around 8:00 under Win2k and 8:21 under Win98.

Prolly Mandrake, tbh. Mandrake would make better use of the CPU's resources (provided you don't run X to do your WU's).

I spent all day yesterday getting a Celeron 566 MHz machine fixed up (completely overrun with virus ... had to end up formatting the hard drive) and my only reward beyond helping the friend of a friend was it is now going to run SETI.

hell yes its worth running on those 2. i have a laptop that im basically running into the ground on a celery 433 and its definately worth it. my theory is this....if you can afford the electrical bill on it and it runs, then its running seti

I still have a PPC 100 MHz pumping a WU every 50 hours. It's a dually so it gives me around 1 WU per day.

Every little bit counts in the total. Bring them on and crunching.

You guys are nuts. I draw the line at Duron 1000 . I will have to visit the hardware thread to unload some of my older stuff. I have a NIB dual P1 board and processors in my closet gathering dust. I bet you guys are licking your chops to get you hands on that.

d00d, i stayed up till 2 AM the day before a major exam waiting for the new D.net client, getting hyped up about old machines is perfectly normal round here. Far as i'm concerned anything that runs in 32 bit (i.e. post 386) is still a good machine !

lets put it this way man, if i could find a way to mod my answering machine or toaster to run seti id be crunching on those too.
